BLACK ORCHID VIBRATIONS (Adele Ramos)

An eclectic blend of music and poetry

About Poetry...

Of Verse, Verve, and Voice

By Adele Ramos

These verses in my head – they flow like rich wine

Rhyming couplets, acrostic poetry – line after line

I’m no Mutabaruka; I’m no Maya

No Langston Hughes or Shakespearean scholar

I don’t try to plagiarize or clone what has been done

With my own flavor and style, I throw it down

Sometimes it’s strange, the timing of a masterpiece

Imagination burning passionately for poetic release

When the lines flow, oh, there’s just no time to write

But when the demands of the day finally diminish

Writer’s block grips me with all its might

Until the muse comes, and I’m imbued by poetic inspiration

Fingers tapping keyboard, here emerges a new composition

It’s a bittersweet experience, writing poetry

Message over mechanics, is my philosophy

Playing with words can be fun and even rewarding sometimes

But there’s a greater responsibility in these perilous times

Poetry presents a prospect for us to effectively speak our truth

Through whatever artistic styles, rhythms, or rhymes

With verse, verve and voice I write

My messages fashioned with sincerity

Maybe too passionate or emotional for some?

But for sure, characterized by authenticity.

‘Cause I don’t steal or borrow lines

Or pad my writings with tired clichés

Those who have heard me know it’s true

I’m not afraid to address any issue

As long as it’s all important to me and you

Now there are many copy-cats who claim to be poets

And many unborn poets who don’t know their potential

Spoken or written, it is crafted by a dexterous hand

Reality is what I speak; it’s bon-a-fide, not superficial!

Verse, verve, and voice -

These all define the portrait I paint from my lexis

May the eternal word serve as our rock, and our nexus

Praises to God, and may He continue to bless!
