Black Women, Wealth and Success

Here are some books about Black women, wealth and success.  For more info on each book, just click on the title.

The Black Woman's Guide to Financial Independence: Smart Ways to Take Charge of Your Money, Build Wealth, and Achieve Financial Security

 by Cheryl Broussard

Broussard, co-owner of a money management firm in Oakland, Calif., believes that black women must learn to handle their finances more effectively to succeed in today's world. Originally self-published, the book walks readers through the basics of personal finance, including setting goals, establishing a budget, buying insurance and saving for retirement.

Girl, Get Your Money Straight!: A Sister's Guide to Healing Your Bank Account and Funding Your Dreams in 7 Simple Steps

by Glinda Bridgforth

Using a variety of self-help techniques, journalist and "financial recovery specialist" Bridgforth has designed a "holistic" program for people who find personal finance stressful. While explicitly addressed to black women, this book would be useful to anyone comfortable with feel-good, recovery program lingo and practices, although those looking for detailed explanations of how stocks and mutual funds work should look elsewhere. Bridgforth advises meditating and repeating inspirational "affirmations" for those who find the idea of designing a spending plan daunting; lighting an aromatherapy candle on an "altar of abundance" may also help. Feeling good, she maintains, is essential to the success of any plan, while low self-esteem, which Bridgforth feels is a particular problem for black women, can result in ruinous, compensatory spending.

Sister Ceo: The Black Woman's Guide to Starting Your Own Business

by Cheryl Broussard

In her book, "The Black Woman's Guide to Financial Independence", Cheryl Broussard gave African American women a much-needed lesson in taking control of their own lives through controlling their money. Now she takes readers one step further in this idea-packed, can-do introduction to entrepreneurship.
