The Black Eyed Peas are an American hip hop crew from Los Angeles, who have lately enjoyed massive international pop success. The Black Eyed Peas is composed of Will.i.am, Apl.de.ap, Jamie Gomez Taboo, and Fergie. Tracing back to the late 1989, will.i.am was an eighth grade student who joined a break- dancing club named “Tribal Nation” where he first met apl. de. ap. Wanting to center more on hip-hop music, these two young guys then formed “Atban Klann” which was actually an acronym for “A Tribe Beyond a Nation.” With the perfect combination of break-dance and hip-hop styles, they set out to perform their skills together in Los Angeles. In 1992, a good opportunity came to the group as a music label owner named Eazy-E eventually signed them under his “Ruthless Records.” After Eazy-E died of AIDS in 1995, Atban Klann reformed as the Black Eyed Peas, replacing their original third member with Taboo (Born: Jaime Gomez), and having Kim Hill as a steady background singer. This new Black Eyed Peas form started to draw people's attention through their show around L.A. due to the magnificence of their microphone and footwork skills as well as the positive lyrics and lively show. Becoming well known in the L.A college music circuit, a representative of Interscope Records offered Black Eyed Peas a record deal after witnessing one of their shows in 1997.

Black Eyed Peas debut album:

In the following year, Black Eyed Peas released their debut album entitled “Behind the Front”. Their next album, “Bridging the Gap”, came up in 2000 and created a sensation. However, it was Black Eyed Peas third album “Elephunk” (2003) which took the group to achieve glorious success and huge popularity worldwide. Establishing Fergie as a substitute for Kim Hill who left Black Eyed Peas in 2000, the album went platinum in U.S. and Europe with an amazing sale of 7 million copies worldwide. Songs like “Where Is the Love?,” featuring famous idol Justin Timberlake, along with “Shut Up” and “Hey Mama” became major hits that entered both U.K. Top 10 and U.S. Hot 100 Charts. This accomplishment of Black Eyed Peas evoked them to be one of the most distinguished music groups for they have created compositions which passed through any races, backgrounds and ages, abandoning boundaries and inhibitions.
