B.J.BANDITS started in response to Lorraine Summerell's NEED to continue Line Dancing, and with no local classes in the country, started her own classes with the assistance of two of her four children, Australian Line Dance Champions Ben & Jessie Summerell and support from her husband Micheal.
Classes began in April 2005, it was slow to begin with but picked up around September when a few young girls came along. gradually over the next few months the young ones multiplied and in April 2006 we have around 40 kids between the ages of 5 and 17, along with a few adults.
Lorraine and Jessie started Line Dancing in 1996, but Ben had been Line Dancing for a couple of years prior to this. In 1996 both Ben & Lorraine travelled to Griffith, NSW and were extras in the movie DOING TIME FOR PATSY CLINE, which also starred Julie Talbot.
Lorraine has competed with Ben & Jessie, while Ben & Jessie have competed in many competitions and have many, many medals.
Ben & Jessie have also trained a young group from Griffith Liners to Riverina & Australian Championship level. Ben & Jessie will continue training their own class. Finley 2006 = 66 medals - Finley 2007 = 108 medals for the group.
B.J.BANDITS have a close association with PACIFIC, GRIFFITH LINERS , COWBOYS & ANGELS, URBAN OUTLAWS, ALLSTARS & RED HOT & COUNTRY & Albury/ Wodonga Line Dance Club along with many other Line Dance groups.
B.J.BANDITS are associated with the Line Dance Association of Australia.
Both Ben and Jessie are qualified Line Dance Judges.
Ben and Jessie regularly dance for local radio station FM-93 at some of Pottsie & Layton's Retro Parties in the Riverina District.
Ben & Jessie along with any visiting Champions usually perform for the local Aged Care Unit at Junee District Hospital.
Ben & Jessie were also extras in the Melbourne Production of The Man From Snowy River Stage Show with Lee Kernagan, Georgie Parker & Bud Tingwell. Following The Man From Snowy River, Ben & Jessie got together with a group from Melbourne and were part of a team called BLAZE. After Blaze some members formed their own Line Dance group called COWBOYS & ANGELS, then after some time both Ben & Jessie left Cowboys & Angels and joined Sydney based group PACIFIC.
2007 - BANDITS have grown, we have about 60-70 dancers, many kids. Ben & Jes no longer dance with PACIFIC, our own team has taken our time. April 2007 marks our 2nd Birhday - we have just held our first annual BANDIT BLITZ Line Dance Championships, an overwhelming success. With over 50 competitors and 200 spectators, many locals supported this event, a lot of town sponsorship was gained.
Ben, Jes & Ryan are off to The New Zealand Line Dance Championships over the Easter weekend, BEST OF LUCK.
New Zealand was a good experience for the trio, now International Line Dance Champions.
