A Brief Description Of Bishops Bridge

Bishops Bridge is a fictional location based in the South London Suburbs, set in late 80s to early 90s BR. Situated on the banks of the river Thames, on one of the main arteries in to London. Whilst the stock run on the layout consists of a wide variety of Ready-To-Run locos and stock, many items of a kit built nature have also been constructed. Many of the units, which are most predominantly the EMUs and some of the freight wagons, are detrimental to the accurate portrayal or traffic for this part of the country. They are not available in the shops and show no sign of being in the near-ish future!

The design for the layout came about due to recent major change to the space available for layout construction. The basic design of Bishops Bridge was conjured up in an evening whilst I was away in Australia in March 2007. Realising that my current permanant project at home was not viable due to the said space limitations, I've decided to build this layout in portable modules, with an ultimate aim to exhibit it.

There are two modes of set-up for the layout; the limited space "home" mode, which consists of just the two scenic boards along with a small fiddle yard at one end bolted on to allow me to run trains on and off the layout, where I sit in front of the layout to operate it. The second mode being the fully operational "away" mode, which involves the layout being set up in the conventional exhibition manner of the operator being in the centre of a large circle, in front being the scenic boards, and fiddle yard boards to the rear.
