Far away from the urban cities of the land Amiki, there lay a small but elegant village that went by the name of Tipent. In those days, the land was well preserved and the houses were snug tightly in a neat and orderly fashion. At the very end of a row of houses which was beside a forest, was a house same as the others with red roofing and white brick walls, resided a young and attractive landscape artist named Parshkan with his elderly parents.
Parshkan's eyes were deep chocolate brown and his thick brown hair was soft as the fur of a kitten. He was truly a talented artist for his scenery portraits were very captivating. You could feel the icy wind throughout your warm body if you took a glimpse of a portrait where it showed raging winds ripping apart an autumn forest. Or view a scene by a lake of a beautiful summer evening portrayed where you could smell the scent of fresh air and hear the birds harmonized out a melody. Parshkan was a genius at his work for he had always admired Mother Nature's raging and elegant beauty. Just because he was attractive and have done many masterpieces doesn't mean he was nice. Rude he was because he always mocked people. He also wanted to for once leave this uneventful village and see, and maybe even stay, at some place new and wild; so wild that even humankind would never dare to destroy it.
----------------------------------------
It was a cold and brutal day where there was a raging storm, billions of water droplets crashed upon Amiki's surface. Only hours later the storm decided to let up and departed Tipent to flood elsewhere.
Parshkan groaned annoyingly as he gazed out the window which overlooked the forest. "The scenes out here are always the same, how boring.” He placed down his paintbrush from his half-done piece of the storm earlier. "Isn't there anything new and interesting that’ll ever happen anymore?"
As if his wish was heard, something shot out from the trees from below in a short distance and flew across the sky with lightning swiftness in an arch shape and disappeared down into the forest. It left behind a rainbow!
"By the heavens!" Parshkan paused for a second. With a sudden flash, he dashed down the stairs, out the front door, and into the forest on his right; he ran like he was ready to win a gold medal.
After much time, he was at the peak of his point where he finally collapsed with exhaustion. Wondering if he went in the right direction and whatever the thing was, was still there. He rested his eyes for a moment and was ready to give up but then he heard some noises ahead. Like someone have just pushed his plug back in, he scrambled forward with curiosity and hope.
He burst into the part of the forest where it was most green and had lots of the golden rays from the shining sun. The area was occupied by a gorgeous girl around his age and several enchanting birds that surrounded her, they were of an unknown origin to this land. She was having a great time as her rich and youthful laughter echoed in Parshkan's ears.
Except what made this scene abnormal was the girl floated in the air, only few inches off the ground. Using her long, thin fingers she traced out mini temporary rainbows upon the air.
Parshkan stood wide-eyed for a he could not believe what he had just witnessed! Seconds later, a pair of deep aqua eyes met to his eyes. The girl gasped. She was seen! She turned and got ready to fly off, until Parshkan grabbed one of her delicate hands and pulled her down.
"Please don't hurt me!" she squeaked in a frightened voice.
"Please don't hurt me!" Parshkan couldn’t helped but mocked when he finally let go of her hand knowing that she would not dare run off because she was afraid. "Do I look like someone that is going to kill you any second?"
She shook her head like a child and began to feel relieved. After an hour or so once they introduced themselves, Parshkan practically knew everything about the girl, Merriet.
She was created by the God of Creation whom was called Wenth. He was instructed by the God of Heaven, Hembras, to create a beautiful female who could form rainbows if she willed to. Hembras wanted to brighten the sky a bit more after the storms with something unique because he was quite bored and wanted something new. Therefore, Merriet was born into the world. Besides being able to levitate and create rainbows, she also had the ability to teleport to wherever she desires. This makes it easier for her to make trips around the world after rainstorms to do her job.
After their first encounter, they became good friends. Often they tried to meet even though Merriet was always busy because the world had dozens of storms each day. Every time they met once more, they began to fall in love with each other deeper than the last. Parshkan felt fulfilled for the first time in his life. Except his habit of mimicking was still heavy as ever, he was just not as rude like before.
If only dreams could last, for as if the devil himself decided to shatter Parshkan's life when Parshkan got a visit from Princess Kila. Princess Kila was the Princess of Amiki and her father, who was King of Amiki, spoiled her rotten ever since she was a young girl. Once her eyes were set on something, she expected it to be received without hesitation. This time was not on something, but someone. Princess Kila was impressed by Parshkan's artistic skills for a long time now when he sold some paintings near her castle.
Of course he and his parents were quite taken for this rare event. They
invited her with open arms, dared not to insult her in any way. But the peaceful moment did not last when
anger burst out of Parshkan when Princess Kila announced her news. She proudly
claimed him as her future to-be husband!
Parshkan towered over her and gave her a deathly stare. "What the hell is the meaning of all this?" His teeth clenched and fists tightened, ready to punch her out even if she was the Princess of Amiki. “I never asked any of this and how dare you decide something without my consent!”
"Whatever do you mean?" Princess Kila asked in the most sugary tone. "Are you not happy that I chose you? Millions of men would die to be in your spot right now."
"'Millions of men would die to be you!' Don't you screw around with me!!!” Parshkan raged out of control and struck her across the face before anyone could stop him.
Silence filled the room. Parshkan's parents were horrified and Parshkan himself only got more furious. Princess Kila stood up and stride out the door. "Kill him. If I can't have you, Parshkan, no one else can in this world."
The guards aimed their rifles at Parshkan and he staggered back, not expecting Princess Kila would give out such order.
The triggers were pulled and a scream belonged to Parshkan’s mother followed.
----------------------------------------
Merriet just completed a rainbow on the other side of the world, when her heart felt ripped out of her. Something was terribly wrong, Using teleportation, she materialized in front of Parshkan’s home, wondered what could’ve happened.
A tragic sight it was for poor Merriet. The door was wide open and there were Parshkan’s parents, mourning over his bleeding corpse. Princess Kila and her guards were long gone. Merriet trembled in fear and confusion. Then her voice shrilled throughout the village, she knew her love was gone.
Tears streamed and stained Merriet’s face. But only minutes later, an idea slapped Merriet’s face. Why didn’t she think of it earlier?
“Stay here, I’ll be back,” she reassured Parshkan’s parents. She vanished off to give a visit to Hembras, the God of Heavens.
Much begging and pleads, Hembras, would not give in to revive Parshkan. “I refuse. We can not toy with mortal souls. It is a forbidden act unless it is an absolute. If humans knew that we brought back a dead man, it would spread throughout and all mortals will go on a rampage. The last thing I need is for mortals to have demands and wars for bringing back the dead.”
Merriet started to lose hope. The only way to bring back Parshkan from the dead was through Hembras approval. He was the only one that could fish out a dead person’s soul from the Pool of Souls. She was just about to leave, until Hembras said out loud and clear, “But I am wiling to let his soul harbour within another creature’s body. Cannot however, be a living thing on Earth at the moment. I suggest that you go to Wenth and you two come up with something new. You’ll bring the body to me and if approve of this new creation, I’ll place the boy’s soul within the body.”
Oh how Merriet jumped with joy! She gave the god a kiss on the cheek and quickly went to Wenth’s place.
----------------------------------------
Hammers against metal could be heard beyond the walls when entered into Wenth’s workshop. Beautiful armours were being crafted out from his skilled and creative hands.
“Ah! Merriet, my beautiful creation, what can I do for you?” He stopped working and gave her a fatherly hug with a peck her with a small welcome kiss on the forehead.
With much gestures and explanation from Merriet, they got right to work afterwards. Many hours later, the body was ready for Parshkan’s soul. Merriet thanked Wenth over and over and at last hurried back to Hembras with the creature’s body in her arms. She presented it to Hembras with an angelic grin. He observed it carefully.
The creature was obviously a type of bird by its features with its long thick wings, round eyes, and big yellow beak. What made it stood out were its feathers. It had all the colours of the rainbow. Merriet wanted Parshkan to have a chance to fly with her one day and that the colours on his feathers were a reminder that she would be with him forever no matter how far they were apart.
Hembras nodded slowly and pulled out Parshkan’s soul which he collected earlier. The bird glowed when the soul was inserted into its body. Parshkan was back! Oh it was glorious!
“Oh, Parshkan! Parshkan!” Merriet cried with happiness.
“Parshkan! Parshkan!” It squawked and flapped.
Hembras and Merriet were astounded. This was the first animal on Earth that could speak. It was then they realized that this exotic bird could only mimic after people. But then it suddenly went, “Merriet! Merriet! I love you! I love you!”
A gentle smile crossed Merriet’s soft lips when Parshkan perched her shoulder.
----------------------------------------
Merriet reported this to Parshkan’s parents and brought bird Parshkan
along with her. Having their recently deceased son reincarnated into a bird was
a strange sight indeed but they were glad that their son was not completely
gone. Merriet and Parshkan’s parents came to a decision to let Parshkan inhabit
elsewhere.
“Some place that no person can settle because I’m sure many hunters
would want to get their hands on him.” Merriet thought for a bit and then it
came to her mind. “The rainforest! He’ll surely survive there because I shall
be his guardian from now on!”
Parshkan was then settled in a tropical forest, miles away from a place
where he once called home. A great thing about the rainforest was the occasional
rainstorms. From a distance if one was ever lucky enough after a furious storm,
one might see beautiful figure of a girl and a bird gliding across the sky,
leaving behind a breath-taking rainbow.
One day Hembras asked from above, “What shall we name this breed of bird
that Parshkan’s soul resides in?”
Merriet threw back her head with a hearty laughter and thought long and hard. “Let’s call them ‘parrots’.”
