Welcome to Birth in Harmony!
Birth in Harmony is based in North Kingstown, RI. Our goal is to provide labor support before, during and after labor for Rhode Island Families.
Many studies have shown that the continuous presence of a labor assistant during the birth process can:
- Decrease cesarian rate by 50%
- Decrease pain medication use by 30%

What is a doula/labor assistant?
- A doula (from the Greek meaning “woman’s servant”) is a trained woman who understands and trusts the natural process of birth, who respects its transcendent and sacred aspects as well as its physical and emotional aspects.
- A doula facilitates the birth experience for the parents, the baby and the primary care providers.
- A doula supports and encourages, using comfort measures and labor enhancing techniques to decrease anxiety for the laboring mother to make it an empowering, positive and memorable experience.
