Birth in Harmony

Birth in Harmony is based in North Kingstown, RI. My goal is to provide labor support before, during and after labor for Rhode Island Families. I believe every laboring woman should have a doula. I don't replace dads, I support them. I empower every couple/mom to make the right choice for them/her by giving them/her the information they/she need(s), before and during labor. I am here for you, with you, to make sure you have a voice so you can have the best birth experience possible.

Many studies have shown that the continuous presence of a labor assistant during the birth process can:

• Decrease cesarian rate by 50%
• Decrease pain medication use by 30%
• Decrease need for epidural by 60%

As well as increase breastfeeding, shorten the labor, reduce use of forceps…

What is a doula/labor assistant?

• A doula (from the Greek meaning “woman’s servant”) is a trained woman who understands and trusts the natural process of birth, who respects its transcendent and sacred aspects as well as its physical and emotional aspects.
• A doula facilitates the birth experience for the parents, the baby and the primary care providers.
• A doula supports and encourages, using comfort measures and labor enhancing techniques to decrease anxiety for the laboring mother to make it an empowering, positive and memorable experience.
