My name is Severine Degnan, my daughter Anais was born on June 20th, 2006. She is my inspiration for becoming a doula and child birth educator. I knew becoming a mother would change me forever but I never expected it would also change my view on life, on labor, on how to bring a child into this world and certainly not change my career.
I labored at the ABC room at Women and Infant's hospital in RI and was blessed with a powerful and spiritual labor.
As I reflected on my birthing experience, I realized Anais gave me a gift; I felt drawn to pregnant moms, I felt that what I was given should be shared with expecting moms and that I was called to help laboring women. I am certified with ALACE (Association of Labor Assistant and Childbirth Educator - www.ALACE.ORG), worked with teen moms, moms and dads, volunteered at Women and Infants. I am looking forward to working with you.
I believe that every birth is beautiful, miraculous and most importantly, unique. There is no right or wrong way to birth a child, but there are many ways to ensure that a woman, with her family, feels empowered and in control of what she is experiencing. As a doula I strive to support each woman I serve to find her own unique pathway for birthing her baby. I feel strongly that there are real advantages to natural birth that have been well documented. As your doula I will be honest with you about the risks and benefits of various interventions so you can make the decision that is best for you and your baby and no one else. It's your choice and your birth!.
