19/7/08 Partly Cloudy 16c Wind W 7m/s
A few returning waders seen today in the South Bay with about 25 Dunlin, 15 Sanderling, 4 Ringed Plovers feeding along the tide line.
A Single Curlew was amongst the resident Redshanks and 200+ Starlings on the rotting seaweed, including one bird mimicking a Bar Tailed Godwit.
6 Pied Wagtails were catching insects along the foot of the cliff with a male still feeding one of its young.

A wander around the wetland this afternoon produced...............wait for it.....
The usual crowd of mixed gull species on the point along with 5 cormorants, Eider and a few Carrion Crows. A few Kittiwakes and Sandwich Terns offshore. The North Bay was full of school kids so no waders along the tide line and only a few Black Headed Gulls bumming chips. The top bushes held  singing Chaffinch, Whitethroat, Reed Bunting, Linnets and now and again a Wren would pipe in.
The wetland was nearly empty of bird life apart from the resident Mute Swans, Moorhens and a few House Sparrow fledglings.
For me the best bit of the visit was watching loads of Wall butterflies, Burnet Moths, Large White butterfly and a jumping spider sp.

Mystery flower any clues anyone???

These brave souls were giving the lighthouse a lick of paint. You'd never get me in that.....

4/7/08 Partly Sunny 16c Wind SW 4m/s

Reed Buntings in the top bushes. Also noted were Blue Tailed Damselfly, Large Red Damselfly and a Drone-Fly(a first for me here).

I wandered round the patch today looking for lil beasties rather than birds. Here is a few of the snaps I took.
There's loads of variety about insect wise if you take time to look downwards...........Wish I'd looked before.

Well June has arrived and its typical crappy weather. so not much about today. A pair of Tufted Ducks , 3 Mallards, 2 Mute Swans
Sand Martins, House Martins, Swallows and a few Swift hawking over the wetland. A Grey Heron was trying his luck in the reeds
but as far as I saw it was unsuccessful.

Bugger all on the rocks except school kids and winkle pickers so I came home for a bash on Halo2.

Natures Prozac
A Grasshopper Warbler reeling away in the scrub between the mounds today was
another patch year tick. It was sitting right in the open but was too far away for my 300mm lens
for me to get a decent photo, still was a joy to watch and gave me my best views yet of a Groppa.
I'd never noticed before that when they "reel" their tails look like their vibrating.
4 Pair of Reed Buntings seen including 2 pair"getting it on", what a way to spend a few minutes
"dogging" Reed Buntings....
2 Whitethroats, Swallows,Sand Martins and a few Sandwich Terns about.
A male Kestrel nabbed a small vole from the top scrub. Skylarks and Meadow Pipits were
displaying away in the West Field.  The good weather made todays visit very pleasant.
