Bircotes Penguins Swimming Club

EVERY WEDNESDAY EVENING

Training Tips...

Top 10 training tips

1:   Every training session is a chance for you to improve and beat your PBs.

2:   Try to attend as many sessions as possible.

3:   Drink plenty of fluids during training.

4:   Finish each length properly and ensure your turns are done correctly and quickly.

5:   Think about the speed you should be going - listen to the coach (...eg. don't race the warm-up!).

6:   A good technique is important to excel in swimming - not just speed.

7:   Make sure that you bring all your equipment each week: costumes, goggles, pull buoy, kick board, flippers, drink etc.

8:   A good swim down will help you to avoid muscle stiffness - treat it seriously.

9:   Arrive at the pool with a positive attitude (ready to work hard), and leave feeling you have accomplished something.

10:   Remember, your coaches are there to give you advice and to improve your swimming!

11:   If you have a cold or cough or feel under the weather then do not swim.

Finally - come to the galas!  If you have been picked to represent Bircotes Penguins in a gala or open meeting, be proud.  Go to them as often as possible to ensure all you hard work in training pays off!

Extra sessions

Swimming is a training intensive sport and as you improve you will need to consider training more often.  As Bircotes Penguins is a small club and cannot offer multiple sessions we encourage you to train with Bassestlaw 'link and development sessions'. You will need to be recommended by us (the coaches) but they offer excellent training that compliments and runs alongside everything we are doing here on a club night.

Monday 7:00pm - 8:00pm at Bircotes Leisure Centre

Thursday 4.30pm - 5.30pm at Worksop Leisure Centre

Places are limited and as a guide it is usually top swimmers in the 2nd session and all swimmers in the 3rd session on a Wednesday night that are suitable.
