The Short Story

Turaga Whenua

Whenua is the elder of the Earth Village, Onu-Koro. He is also the Cheif of the Vault in Kini-Nui Hall. Whenua wears the Noble Ruru, the mask of Night Vision.

The Legend of the Paracosmos

For years the Turaga had studied mysteries, and learned amazing things about their world, but now, shortly after the coming of the Toa on Mata Nui, something has been found that shocks even them. Turaga Whenua began that day by heading to his Turaga Library, to study theories and prophecies about the Toa. But he was surprised to find a strange tablet sitting on a shelf. He knew the patterns inscribed on it well, and had received many such tablets over the years from beings the Turaga dared not mention. Reading it, he discovered a Legend perhaps more important than any he'd ever seen. It read as follows:

Before the change, in the world outside of time, there was one universe, one cosmos. The Tapestry of Time branched into many thousands of strings, but these strings were merely shadows. The real Bionicle Cosmos followed one path only. Then there was an Event. This Event was so powerful, the Tapestry split, was duplicated, at the very root. A new, second tapestry was woven. The strings of the first tapestry were copied, and many new strings were added. The tapestry became far more intricate than the first, but always the core pattern converged back to mirror the pattern of the first. This second cosmos was not just a mere shadow of the first; the two ran parallel, equal in reality, but subtly different in design. This was the result of the Event; the change. This was the Bionicle Paracosmos.

Whenua realized from his past experiences that he was most likely living inside this Paracosmos. Why this had been revealed, and what more would be learned in the future were mysteries Whenua had no answer for. He decided this news must be sent to the other Turaga with the highest security possible; he realized that Makuta suspected he'd learned something of great importance.

Nuhuri

Images: [Sketch]

Nuhuri is Onu-Koro's Cheif Rahi Tracker. It is her job to keep track of where Onu-Wahi Rahi are congregated, how many are infected, and what types of Rahi could present threats to Onu-Koro. She is an expert at deciphering footprints and other tracks in the dirt, and reading Rahi's body language. Nuhuri is also tasked with managing the maps of Onu-Wahi; she is the one Matoran that explores the Wahi the most. She is good at defending herself, especially against Rahi, since she knows their behavior, and can predict what they are going to do in battle.

Note from Whenua

Whenua copied the Legend of the Paracosmos onto five stone tablets to be sent to the other Turaga. The notes were wrapped in barkcloth, which is capable of hiding its contents from the vision of an Akaku, and chained up, with a lock that could only be opened by the other Turaga's identity keys.

Onua

Images: [With his backpack]

Onua is one of six Toa who arrived on the island of Mata Nui, to take on the Makuta, the powerful enemy of the Matoran and Turaga. He is the Toa of Earth, to whom tunnels and caves are home. Aided in his immense strength with his mask, the Kanohi Pakari Mask of Strength, and his powerful claws, he is able to dig rapidly through the earth. His sensitive fingers can detect vibrations through the ground easily. His eyes have trouble seeing well in bright sunlight, but are adjusted perfectly to the darkness of caves deep underground.

Onua is perhaps the quietest Toa, other than Kopaka; he prefers to only speak if he has something useful to add. He is one of the calmest Toa in nature, rarely displaying a temper, though in battle he is as tough as they come. Onua beleives that the Toa would be best to work together, but is uncomfortable with arguing the point when the others are determined to work alone. He has quickly developed a familiarity with his Koro and its people, and would be loyal to them to the point of death if need be.

Taktaga

A somewhat common Onu-Wahi Rahi, the jet black Taktaga hover silently in the air near the rooves of caves, much like Hoi Turtles from Le-Wahi. They are small, no larger than a Matoran, and resemble an upside-down scorpion without legs. Their main ability is to project an energy beam from their tails that can act as a tractor beam, or can push things away. They also features sharp white claws which can deliver a nasty punch. They are almost never infected, because they are so alert and powerful for their size. However, recently, even they have begun falling to Makuta's control.

Nui-Jaga

Images: [Tossing Poison] [Front view sketch]

Nui-Jaga are large, powerful scorpions found primarily in Onu-Wahi and underground in the other Wahi. Their claws and tails can deliver powerful blows, while their teeth are large and sharp. Perhaps one of their most dangerous abilities is to shoot poison blobs from their tails, which temporarily blind any opponent who gets it in his or her eyes. They also can use their sheer weight to their advantage in battle. Nui-Jaga come in two main color schemes, light blue mixed with black and gray, and purple mixed with black and gray. They can act both as solitary animals and pack animals. When working together in large groups, they are one of Makuta's most powerful fighting forces. Even uninfected, they are agressive by nature - infected, they can be almost sinister.

Nui-Jaga Antidote

Images: [Vial of Antidote]

Invented by Kewonga the Healer, this serum is a mix of herbs and chemicals designed to instantly counteract Nui-Jaga Poison's blinding and irritation effects, when applies to the eyes. Most Onu-Koronans carry a vial of it around anytime they venture outside of the Koro.

Nui-Jaga Cavern

Images: [The Multitude of Jaga]

Onua and Nuhuri encountered this huge cavern while tracking a Nui-Jaga that had stolen a Turaga note from Onua. They witnessed an army of thousands of infected Nui-Jaga ammased in the cavern (Nuhuri was shocked that this many Nui-Jaga were in one place, much less infected). Nuhuri believes this army has most likely been collected with the intent of attacking Onu-Koro in the future - which is a very troubling thought.

Fikou

Images: [Web of the Fikou]

These spiders are common throughout Mata Nui. Slightly smaller than a Matoran, they are capable of making sticky webs strong enough to hold a Matoran, or even a Toa. A totally black variety is common in Onu-Wahi, and infected Fikou often build hidden webs amongst the caves of other infected Rahi. Once they catch something, their venom stuns the prey for weeks. Then they will often detach biomechanical lifeform's limbs (if they can detach naturally, like Matoran and Toa) and store them in different places to eat later. A few have been tamed in some of the Koro, and their non-sticky web material is used as rope. Nuparu once attempted to use their venom in a Stun Spear that is more potent then those made from Lohraka stun poison, but the venom deteriorated too quickly outside of a body for the spears to be of any use.
