Rautu Tablet
Rautu Tablets are a special tool that are capable of finding Kanohi, or Tools of Power, or anything with a mystical protodermis signature embedded into them with a Matiku Chisel. A Rautu Tablet is used by holding it at arm's length, and imagining the object or signature you want to find. If it is within a certain range, which begins with about three bios, and can be extended with concentration, it will appear on the face of the tablet if the tablet is held so that its back is pointing towards the object. The maximum extension of this range is usually about thirty bios for an average Matoran. For a Turaga, it is about 120 bios. For a Toa, it has been known to extend for up to 400 bios.
Each Turaga owns at least one Rauku Tablet. Many merchants also own them, and use them to determine the validity of proto coins. The Po-Koro Coin Carvers own one, to determine the quality of Matiku Chisel Signatures before releasing every proto. Kewonga the Healer also owns one.
Matiku Chisel
These special tools are capable of embedding a mystical protodermis signature into an object that is made of protodermis. The signature is created inside the object, not on the surface. Thus it is not easily copied, or detected. They can be detected with Great Akaku Kanohi, or with Rautu Tablets.
The design of each signature is unique to the Matiku Chisel being used. The signature is embedded by holding the chisel's tip on the object in question, and commanding it to carve its signature mentally, focusing on the position within the object the signature is to go in. This requires mental discipline. With practice, it becomes increasingly easy, however. A beginner at using a Matiku Chisel may only acheive a partial signature, or may cause the signature to be warped. An expert will create a perfect siganature every time. These signatures can be removed by melting the object, or by applying intense heat only to the area with the signature.
There are at least eleven Matiku Chisels known to the Turaga. Six are owned by each Turaga, and used to ensure that notes being sent back and forth between them are authentic. One has been entrusted to the Po-Koro Coin Carvers, and its signature is embedded into every proto. One is used by Kewonga the Healer, so that any medical instruction messages he sends out can be verified. The other three have been stored away in the Hall of the Council.

These common tablets feature a low-friction writing surface that can be written on with darkchalk pencils, and easily erased by wiping the surface with a cloth, leaf, etc.
Identity Key
Timeline entries: [Epic1]
A special key with the power to detect who is using it to unlock a door or container. There are only 20 known to exist. Most are owned by the Turaga. Six are used to gain entrance to the Turaga Libraries, and the Great Library in Kini Nui Hall. Turaga Whenua also has one to enter the Vault, in the basement of Kini Nui Hall. Various others are used to enter secret doorways and chests with valuable items throughout the island, while a few are owned by Matoran, like Kewonga the Healer.
