Death to Spies PC - by AA0, December 18, 2007 The notion of being a
spy, being able to single-handedly infiltrate an installation has
always appealed to me. I think Deus Ex, at least for me, was the last
game that mixed a good feeling of exploration, tactical takedowns,
precision movements and eavesdropping to complete objectives and
progress through your mission. This was the reason I was so excited to
play Death to Spies — not because you can knife people in the head!
But ... that is a perk.

Avencast: Rise of the Mage PC - by Scorpogee, December 18, 2007 Once
in awhile, I'll delve into an occasional role-playing game. In this
case, it was Avencast — Rise of the Mage, developed by Clockstone and
published by Lighthouse Interactive. As with any game of this type, I
couldn't wait to see what it could do. Some of the features include:
puzzle solving, spell effects that are deadly, strong combat
sequences, a great game engine and lots of quests to resolve.

Tomb Raider: Anniversary PSP - by AberMike, December 18, 2007 Tomb
Raider: Anniversary is Lara Croft's second PSP outing — and vastly
different from the Sony handheld's first game, Legend. Whereas that
title basically ignored the heritage and past success of the Tomb
Raider games, Anniversary does the opposite: It's a next-generation
remake of the original Tomb Raider game — yes, from the dark days of
1996 — that takes plenty of inspiration from the seminal adventure and
adds a coat of much-needed modern sheen.

Sam and Max Season Two, Episode 1: Ice Station Santa PC - by Norin,
December 17, 2007 Hello and welcome to the first review in Season 2 of
Sam & Max, Telltale's very successful foray into episodic content
development. Their newest installment - Ice Station Santa - appears to
continue to maintain a high level of quality Telltale set in Season 1.

Nancy Drew: The Deadly Secret of Olde World Park DS - by LaughingOtter,
December 17, 2007 If I had my way, this review would consist of just
one line: 'Stop reading reviews and buy this game'.

Something tells me, however, that if I tried that Ophelea would appear
next to my desk in a huff and a cloud of smoke. "That is not a
review", she would thunder. "That's cheap dramatic hyperbole with no
meaningful content for our readers!" She'd be right, of course, but
that's still my reaction to Nancy Drew: Deadly Secret of Olde World
Park.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare PC - by chabuhi, December 17, 2007 Ten
minutes of gameplay was all I needed to know that Call of Duty 4:
Modern Warfare is one of the best games I have ever played. It also is
quite likely the best looking game I have ever played. The experience
of being drawn into the story is as present in Call of Duty 4 as it
was in the World War II-themed Call of Duty and Call of Duty 2. The
hype is high for this title, and it does a darn good job of living up
to that hype.

Harvest Moon: Boy & Girl PSP - by Sylvene, December 17, 2007 If
someone would have suggested that I'd enjoy a farming sim, I'd have
popped that illusion with a cynical lift of an eyebrow and goggled at
them. Me? Farming sim? As it were ... I popped Harvest Moon: Boy &
Girl into my PlayStation Portable on Thanksgiving morning, and it was
3 a.m. the next day before I finally put it down. I didn't really need
an excuse to avoid the Black Friday crowds, but it was a lovely
rationalization. "No, I really can't. I have to finish this game I'm
reviewing." In reality, I could have stayed up a couple hours more and
gone out with my relatives as they rushed to the 6 a.m. sales.
Instead, I woke up late and picked up my PSP again.

Cake Mania 2 PC - by Alladania, December 15, 2007 In Cake Mania 2,
Jill is back, flush from her victory in the original Cake Mania. Sure,
she conquered all previous venues and saved the family bakery, but
laurels can get boring to rest upon, so when her friends Risha and
Jack cry for help, Jill is there to heed their calls.

Galactic Assault: Prisoner of Power PC - by AA0, December 15, 2007
I've always been a little weary of playing turned-based strategy
games; something about them just makes me roll my eyes and yawn a
little. My biggest complaint about turn-based games are that each turn
seems a task with almost no real life or movement in the game world.
Weird thing is ... Galactic Assault Prisoner of Power didn't make me
yawn — or ever make things seem like each turn was a chore.

Travelogue 360 Paris Macintosh - by Marty Dodge, December 15, 2007
Travelogue 360 Paris is one of those titles that is really rather
difficult to review. It's not really a game in the traditional sense,
but it has gameplay elements. It's basically a seek and find adventure
on a very basic level.

Sally's Salon PC - by Soapy, December 15, 2007 If you've been playing
a lot of casual games lately, Sally's Salon might not be something
entirely new. There have been a slew of games in which you need to
multitask and manage your environment, each packaged just slightly
different than the other to try and keep things fresh. In Sally's
Salon, Sally's dream is to have a coast-to-coast salon chain of her
own. After many years of saving money and training, she finally has
opened her first salon in a mall. This is Sally's first step as she
continually moves to bigger and better locations. You help Sally with
her day-to-day job of making sure her customers are happy and that
they come in and get the haircut they want.

Glory Days 2 DS - by Sylvene, December 15, 2007 Glory Days 2 opens
with a wonderful soundtrack. I mean, truly fantastic for something
with as small a footprint as the Nintendo DS. There is a war
somewhere. It is unnamed, although you're an American pilot. The enemy
is not described and neither is the time period, but it echoes World
War II — from the "radio" announcer to the propeller planes, leather
aviator helmet and goggles found throughout the game. The game
provides instructions in English, Spanish and French and suggests
headphones for the best sound effects. I cranked up the sound.

Holly Hobbie and Friends DS - by Alladania, December 15, 2007 I
remember long, long ago in my youth (you know, when dinosaurs roamed
the earth) having a Holly Hobbie rag doll. I seem to remember her
being dressed like a little prairie girl with a sunbonnet, long dress
and apron. My, how times have changed. I guess this modern young Holly
Hobbie is like the great (or great-great-great) granddaughter of the
original Holly Hobbie I grew up with.

Time Crisis 4 PlayStation 3 - by respawn, December 13, 2007 I mean, I
was shooting bad guys. I like shooting bad guys. I wasn't even using a
game pad with which to shoot them. I was holding the state-of-the-art
(albeit orange-colored) Guncon 3, an arcade-style double-grip
pistol-looking thing that I just pointed at the screen and blasted
away with. But I discovered that the Guncon was part of what was
getting in the way of my enjoyment of the game.

Assassin's Creed Xbox 360 - by Hengist, December 13, 2007 I recently
returned from a trip to the Middle East circa 1191. Despite how weird
that sounds, it's true, and that's how strongly I felt about my time
playing Assassin's Creed. I can't really begin to describe the
atmosphere of this game. I genuinely felt that I was placed in various
cities — Jerusalem and Damascus among them — and I wanted to explore
every street and every alley and take in every detail of the world.
It's been a long time since a game has captured my imagination this
way; I have been utterly entranced by Assassin's Creed. I think I
spent 10 hours playing it the first night, simply amazed and unaware
at how much time had passed. It's been years since I've let a game
take me on that kind of ride.

NEVES DS - by Ophelea, December 13, 2007 I'm a little startled at the
number of tangrams I've solved in my life and yet never knew they
consisted of seven pieces. I have a sneaky suspicion that when I was a
child, many of them had fewer or perhaps additional pieces, depending
on what would make the shape easier to solve as I learned spatial
relation. That I solved over 200 in NEVES without figuring out that
the name is seven backwards ... I hang my head in shame.

Medal of Honor: Airborne Xbox 360 - by SeanMike, December 10, 2007
There are a couple of different ways to approach a World War II
shooter game in terms of enemies. Obviously, the "realistic" way is to
have the enemies be exactly who they were in real life. They're human
and have their own weaknesses, and there's no super armor or
unrealistic weapons. Some games take it that way and rely on an
intensity of firefights and huge numbers of enemies to make the game
exciting.

NASCAR 08 PlayStation 3 - by respawn, December 10, 2007 EA Sports'
NASCAR 08 for the PlayStation 3 is a challenging and naturally
more-structured racing game. It's not for everyone, and the enjoyment
one derives from playing depends on a number of factors. First of all,
gamers who have played previous titles in the long-running NASCAR
series will have an edge getting started. The developers put a lot of
time and effort into making the gameplay accessible to new players,
but the fact is, NASCAR racing is complicated. Yeah, it's mostly just
one big left turn, but there's a lot of strategy and skill needed just
to finish a race, much less win one.

American Civil War: The Blue and the Gray PC - by Scorpogee, December
10, 2007 Once again, I'm reviewing a war game from publisher Matrix
Games - this isn't a bad thing - but my last few have been from
Matrix! This time, the title is published in conjunction with
developer AGEod:American Civil War — Blue and the Grey. I have to
confess that my first thought was, "Oh, no not another war game!" I'm
a bit worn out on war games at the moment, but my editor asked nicely
and the lure of American history that was the Civil War between
1861–1865 helped.

Battlestations 1942 Mobile Devices - by SeanMike, December 10, 2007 In
1942, the United States and Japan fought the Battle of Midway. Japan's
Adm. Isoroku Yamamoto came up with a clever plan to defeat U.S. naval
power. However, Japan's cryptography (naval code D) was cracked by the
United States, and therefore, U.S. Adm. Chester Nimitz knew where the
Japanese Navy would be and when. After four days of fighting, the
United States — at the loss of one carrier and one destroyer of its
own — had sunk four enemy carriers and one cruiser, plus myriad other
ships as well as destroying a good part of the Japanese naval air
power in terms of both planes and pilots.
