Career :  Highfield Villa, Lozells F.C. Aston Shakespeare 1895 – Aston Villa Aug 1897 – Leicester Fosse, Sep. 1908 ( £250 ) – West Bromwich Albion, Oct. 1908 ( £ 270 ) – Lincoln City Dec 1910 (  £100 ) retired May 1911, Aston Villa (trainer, briefly April - May 1913), Fell seriously ill with pneumonia in April 1915, recovered and became a lorry driver with Ansells Brewery in Aston, Birmingham, staying there until his death.

An excellent goalscorer throughout his career, with his dashing moustache finished as top scorer in the whole 

country in season 1899/1900 when his 27 goals (in only 33 matches) helped Villa win the League title for the

fifth time.  Billy was an industrious, never-say-die utility forward, not polished but invaluable for his scoring

proclivities. He could also play at right-half and centre-half, giving service from both positions, but he always

preferred to be 'up front' seeking to score goals, and he did just that on a regular basis throughout his long

career.
 He won junior international honours for England in 1896-7 and collected his first full cap in 1903 (against Wales)

With Villa he gained a League Division One Championship medal in 1900 and an FA Cup winners medal in 1905.

He was Villa's top scorer in season 1899-1900 with a total of 30 League and cup goals in 39 appearances.

A positive forward, always looking to get a shot on goal. He made well over 250 senior appearances for Villa between 1897 and 1908 scoring 112 goals.
