THE THREE TRIALS
Head towards the Scumm Bar. Talk
to the Important-Looking Pirates about wanting to become a pirate. Attempt to
enter the kitchen door (right) - you'll be refused entry by the cook. Stand by
the fireplace. When the cook leaves the kitchen and the screen, enter.
Pick up hunk of meat and pot. Go outside (right) where you'll see a gull.
Stepping on the loose plank will disturb the gull. Stepping on the plank three
or four times will keep the gull at bay long enough so that you can pick up the
fish.
Go to the clearing (on map screen)
where you'll find a circus tent - go inside. Interrupt the two men and
volunteer to be shot out of their cannon, using the pot as a helmet. You'll
receive 478 pieces of eight.
Go to the store and buy the shovel
and the sword. Talk to the storekeeper about the Sword Master. He'll leave and
head towards her house in the fork. Follow on behind him every step of the way.
Once you've successfully located the Sword Master, go towards the lights.
You'll be stopped by a Troll. Give him the fish - it was a red herring!
Now go to the house (right on map
screen) and knock on the door. Being persistent and argumentative (and rich)
will earn a lesson in sword fighting. Afterwards, on the map screen, cross the
path of any wandering pirate - you'll instigate a sword fight. Soon you'll
begin to pick up some insults, along with the appropriate replies. Asking
questions to which you don't know the reply will speed up the learning process.
The correct insults/replies are listed below.
You fight
like a dairy farmer. - How appropriate, you fight like a
cow.
You make
me want to puke. - You make me think somebody already did.
My
handkerchief will wipe up your blood! - So you got that gob as a janitor
after all.
This is
the END for you, you gutter-crawling cur! - And I've got a little TIP for you.

The defeated Sword Master will
give you a shirt (proof of victory). Now, go to the Citizen of Mêlée Island and
buy a map from him. Go to the fork. Use the maps dance steps as directions and
you'll eventually reach an 'X'. Use the shovel on the 'X' - you'll discover
another shirt (proof of discovery).
Pick up some yellow petals from
the fork. Go to the mansion. Use yellow petals with hunk of meat. Give the
poisoned meat to the barking poodles - they are now sleeping. Enter the
mansion. Open the door (left) and go inside -- automatic sequence -- pick up
gopher repellent. Go to the prison and talk to the prisoner. Go to the store
and buy some breath mints. Go back to the prison and ask the prisoner about a
file. Trade gopher repellent with his carrot cake. Open carrot cake to find a
file. Go to mansion, and through gaping hole -- automatic sequence -- Take idol
and rise from the water. Go to Important-Looking Pirates to show them you're
idol and two shirts. The Three Trials have now been completed.
THE GOVERNOR'S BEEN KIDNAPPED!
Go to the Scumm Bar and collect all
the mugs. Go to kitchen and fill one mug with grog (from keg). Head towards the
prison. On your way, the grog will gradually corrode the mug. Before it's
destroyed, transfer the grog into another mug. Repeat this process until you
reach the prison cells. If you fail to complete this task successfully, go back
to the Scumm Bar and try again. Use mug of grog on prisoners cell lock - the
prisoner is freed and agrees to join your crew.
Go to Sword Master and ask her to
join your crew for
Go to Stan's shipyard and pick out
the cheapest ship. Ask about credit. Go to store and ask about credit notes. As
the shopkeeper unlocks his safe, note down the combination he uses (pull/push).
After being turned down for a credit note, ask the shopkeeper to go over and
see the Sword Master again. Use the correct combination on the safe and take
the credit note. Go to shipyard. Pick out the cheapest ship again and ask about
extras. Refuse all extras. Offer 5000 pieces of eight. Walk away in
protest. He'll call you back again. Offer 5000 pieces of eight again - the deal
is done. Go to the dock, where you'll meet Stan, Otis, Carla, Meathook and your
'new' ship.
In your cabin, pick up feather pen
and ink. Open drawer and take logbook. On deck, go up the ladder and take the
flag. Go down hatch. Go down the other hatch. Pick up rope, wine (in chest) and
gunpowder (in barrel, left). Go to the kitchen. Open cupboard and take a box of
cereal. Open the cereal box to find a key (your prize). In your cabin, use the
'cereal key' with the cupboard (right). Open the chest inside and take the
cinnamon sticks and the recipe list. Look at the recipe.
Go to the pot in the kitchen. Put the
following ingredients into the pot: cinnamon stick; breath mints; flag; feather
pen; ink; wine; chicken with pulley; cereal; gunpowder (last of all). A large
explosion follows. On deck you'll see
Pick up banana. Go into jungle
(map screen). Go top top-left of map, prompting a new screen. Go to the fort.
Pick up spyglass and rope. Push the cannon. Talk to Herman Toothrot. Take cannon
ball and gunpowder. Back on the map screen, go right, prompting another map
screen. Go to the river fork. Pick up rock (flint) and note. Use gunpowder with
dam. Next to it, use the flint with the cannon ball - the dam explodes.
Go to pond (end of river). Pick up
rope around corpse. Go to original map screen. Go to the crack. Use rope on
branch and climb down. Use other rope on stump and climb down. Pick up oars. Go
to beach and use oars with boat. Row up to the right, past the first
beach you come to, stopping at the second. Go to jungle (prompting map screen).
Go to village. Take bananas from fruit bowl. To escape the Cannibals, pick up
the skull, lift the floorboard and exit through the hole.
Go back to fork (by destroyed
dam). Make your way up the footholds. Adjust large catapult so that it's
aligned with Guybrush. Go up footholds. Push a rock over the cliff - the banana
tree is hit. If not, try adjusting the angle of the large catapult. Go to beach
and collect fallen bananas. On map screen, notice the grey monkey, go towards
it. Give bananas to monkey - he'll now follow you everywhere. Walk towards the
top-right of the screen (with monkey nearby), prompting another new screen with
a beach and a clearing. Go to clearing. Walk right until you reach a fence.
Pull on the totem pole (nose). The monkey will imitate your pulling action,
allowing you to pass through the gate. Pick up the tiny little idol.
Go to the Cannibals village. Go to
the hut, and then walk back towards the right of the screen. Plead with the
Cannibals and give them the tiny little idol in exchange for your life. Go into
the hut and take the banana-picker. On leaving, give the banana-picker to
Herman Toothrot. You'll receive the key to the Monkey Head (clearing). Use the
key (cotton bud) in the Monkey Head ear. Go inside - you won't be able to find
your way around.
Go to the Cannibals and ask them
about LeChuck and about anti-root. They tell you that you're going to
need the Navigator's Head in order to find LeChuck. Give them the
pamphlet/leaflet/brochure entitled 'How To Get Ahead In Navigating'. They'll
give you the Navigator's Head. Inside the Monkey Head, use the Navigator's
Head, who'll direct you to LeChuck's ghost ship. Outside the ghost ship, ask
the Navigator's Head for his magic necklace. Be harsh and you'll finally get
the necklace from him. Use the necklace (you're now invisible to ghosts).
On the ghost ship, head towards
the cabin (left). Use the magnetic compass with the key on the wall - it should
fly towards the magnet. On deck, go down hatch. Pass the bedroom, continuing
into the next room. Pick up the chicken and you'll obtain a ghost feather. In
the bedroom, use the ghost feather on the drunken ghost pirate (when he is
outstretched and his bottle is hanging down). You may need to do this more than
once. Take his bottle of drink.
In the previous room use the key with
the hatch. Go down the hatch and use the drink with the rat's bowl. Pick up
grease. On deck, use grease with squeaky door. Go inside. Pick up ghost tools.
Go to room with hatch and use tools on glowing crate. Look at it - you'll
discover the anti-root. Exit ghost ship. Exit cave. You'll obtain root beer
from Cannibals. On returning to the cave, you'll find it's been deserted.
