THE BEDFORD CF VAN PROJECT

I AM GOING TO TRY AND TURN THIS !

INTO SOMETHING A BIT LIKE THIS !

AND I HOPE TO CHANGE THE INSIDE FROM THIS

TO SOMETHING AS COMFORTABLE AS THIS

THIS IS WHAT I PLAN ON DOING

This site is about a my hobby custom vans ,and a project i have decided to have a go at .I am going to try and build my own custom van . I have got no links or qualifications to do with the motor trade so we will have to see how it turns out .I have got an old builders van ,it is a bedford CF i brought this van about two years ago for £100 and have used it daily since , i have been to a few custom van shows in it and have dreamed about what i could do to mine but never rearly bothered to do anything about it . I have had a few off these bedford vans over the years but they never rearly come to anything so this time i am a bit more determind to change this . i was talking to other vanners at the shows and one said to me "if you look at it as a piece of metal if you cut it wrong you can always weld another piece in " so that is what made me decide to go for it .

NOW FOR THE INTERIOR

Well as you can see it looks as though it has seen plenty of work in the back , It will be quiet a while until it starts to look like the one pictured below , But i think with a bit of time and patience i will eventuarly get there i will try and give as much comentry and pictures as i can during the different stages of transformation .But if all else fails at least i can say i had a good go at it

well i thought i would take care of the rust first and a dent in a side pannel so i went at knocking it out with a hammer and then i started poking with a screwdriver
this is one of the holes i found
I then found quite a big hole it spread towards the floor and rear arch so time for the grinder i have cut the rust out and am left with 2 big holes in the floor and 1 in the bottom of the side door pillar

After cutting it out i set about making a new piece out of some sheet metal in the shed i cut it to shape of the hole so that it lapped the wheel arch in order that i would get a good overlap
here is the new piece in place
i then set about welding it in to place "this was fun" having never stick welded before anyway got it welded into place and then give it a quick coat with bitchamin paint to protect it

It was then time a tackel the difficult bit the one at the bottom of the door pillar this i was not looking forward to as ther were two bends on this piece and then the cill which i am wonting to replace
this is the hole at the bottom of pillar
well i have cut all the rust out and have removed the side cill ,o' my goodness it is in a worst condition than i thought . i was wondering how to go about tackling this next stage ?

after some carful consideration i thought about welding in a piece of 2" angle iron as this would fit nicely into the place of the first bend and would make it easier to fit the new cill piece to
The side cill removed and new angle iron in place
i then set about replacing the piece at the bottom of the door pillar this has been removed from a scrap cf along with the cill piece as i could not find anyway of making them so a small cheat on this bit

right we have got to get this !
right i have got to cut the piece on the (left) to size to fit in the hole on the (right)this could be difficult as i do not want any overlap onto the other pannel and i have only got one one chance to get it right
cut to size to fit here

the new piece in place
right that is the new piece at the bottom of the door pillar fitted know it is time to fit the new (off an old van) cill piece into place , well they have all gone to plan time to sort out the last hole
the new cill piece fitted

the hole in footwell
the last hole to be sorted out is one in the pasanger footwell at the of the wheel arch by the bottom door hindge , this again is a tricky piece as i do not want it to overlap anywhere
the repaired hole

the patches on the floor sorted out
right that is all the body work sorted out it is know time to remove the side and rear doors as i am replacing the side door with a new (second hand) one and i am changing the rear doors to a 1 piece door
time to remove side and rear doors

I HAVE CHOSEN TO REMOVE THE REAR DOORS AND REPLACE THEM WITH A ONE PIECE DOOR

REAR DOOR

I HAVE CHOSEN TO FIT SOME HEART SHAPED BULLSEYE WINDOWS IN THE SIDE OF THE VAN

THE HEART WINDOWS

I HAVE FITTED A FRONT SPOILER INCORPARATING FOG LAMPS AND A BONNET VENT TO THE FRONT OF THE VAN AND CHANGED THE HEADLAMPS

FRONT SPOILER AND BONNET VENT

THE REAR DOOR IS HINDGED ON THE TOP SO THAT IT WILL OPEN UPWARDS AND NOT SIDE WAYS

REAR DOOR OPENING UPWARDS

THE OLD SIDE DOOR HAS BEEN REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH A NEW (SECOND HAND ONE)

THE NEW SIDE DOOR

RIGHT NOW THAT ALL THESE JOBS HAVE BEEN DONE IT IS TIME TO SAND IT DOWN AND GET SOME FILLER PRIMMER ONTO THE BODY AND SMOOTH IT OUT

SPRAYED WITH FILLER PRIMER

i have misslaid the interior build will post it when i find it

THE FINISHED ITEM
