We have relocated now living in SC Greenville/Spandburg Area.
ATT: ( Big Buddy Kennel Has A partner MY GOOD FRIEND MIGUEL OCAMPO )
Pitbulls are structurally bred for Personality. We firmly believe that pitbulls should display courage while having a well balanced drive. All of our dogs have outstanding athletic abilities and are very well socialized. Big Buddy Kennels breeds for Quality not Quantity. All of our dogs carry champion bloodlines, Razors Edge. All our dogs are UKC Register. we are in the proces of RG my Dogs whith the ABKC
These 10 points are my observations on how to be a successful kennel. I honestly believe if everyone followed these 10 rules it would help your kennel, our community, our registration and our breed. Its a long read but I think worth the time.
1. Always keep an open line of communication. This means always answering phone calls. Always returning emails and texts within 48 hours. If you are operating a kennel you should be checking your emails everyday so don’t come with the excuse I only check my emails every couple weeks that’s not acceptable and if you do this you are in the wrong business/hobby.
2. Practice good customer service. Always try to please your customer and make their experience with your kennel a good one. This means always doing what you say and in a timely manner.
3. Don’t ever sell a puppy without papers in hand. If you are on top of your business and send the paperwork in the first week the puppies are born you will ALWAYS have them back in time for the puppies to go the their new home. If the UKC/ABKC messes up refer to rule #1.
4. Always keep your word. I will take a line from an old Ghostface song. “The words you talk better be the words you walk” I personally try to live by that saying and everyone should conduct their business under this motto.
5. Stay humble. I don’t care if you have been doing this 20 years or 20 days. You can always learn something new. The older cats can learn things from the new guys and the new guys damn sure have a lot to learn from the older guys but the older guys need to be willing to pass the knowledge to someone deserving of it. You knew guys show respect and be that guy that is deserving of the knowledge. If we really care about the breed we will help our breeders of tomorrow.
6. Always be willing to help your fellow breeder. This means sharing information on flaws you saw from two lines crossing so we can all get better, means helping someone setup at a show, means feeding someone’s dogs if they are in an accident, means doing a breeding sometimes for a puppy because you know the two bloods will produce nicely and bettering the breed and next generation is payment enough. You get my point put all the immature bullshit aside and help your fellow breeder.
7. Have proper show and ring conduct. We don’t want the ABKC to be all uptight and stuffy like some UKC shows but at the same time we want to be taken seriously. This means conducting yourself professionally at shows. Not getting wasted drunk and showing your ass and fighting. This means taking the time to learn how to properly present your dog to the judge. Respect the judge and their decision even if you don’t agree with it. This means giving your dog a bath before a show and doing leash work with them. For you show promoters this means turning the music WAYYYY down or even off. We came to enjoy dogs we didn’t come to a concert.
8. Put the money you earn back into your dogs. If you make $10,000 dollars off a breeding and your dogs live in shitty conditions what does this say about you and the love of your dogs. I see this to much. Always be trying to make your dogs living conditions better and more comfortable.
9. When in doubt GO TO A VET. You see this all the time. My dog has his guts hanging out any home remedies to fix this? That is a little exaggerated but not by far. If your dog is in a crisis situation or having birthing problems take them to the vet don’t post up for advice on a message board hoping to save money. This also means you have to have the means to breed dogs because it is costly. Not everyone can afford to breed dogs and there is a reason for that I think. If you want to do this the right way generally you will be very lucky to break even.
10. Last but not least. Spend time with your dog’s everyday. Love on them, groom them, play with them, and give them kisses. No matter where you are at in your kennel growth you should never get out of this daily routine. Playing with your dogs daily and giving them love and getting it back will constantly remind you why you do this. It reminds you why you spend so much time, tears, frustration, heart ache, morning etc. doing the dog thing. One last note. This is not a “GAME” and should not be referred to as one. Anything involving living breathing animals and bringing them into the world is not a game people.
