Furthering Our Vision

The State Department of Education has provided our Preschool with $100,000 over a 3-year period in order to hire additional staff members so that we can expand our program to include peers without disabilities (typical peers).  We currently have 50% of our enrollment as typical peers.  This opportunity to include our children with special needs into a classroom full of typically developing peers is an outstanding way of providing instruction in their natural learning environment.   Along with addressing the specific needs of the individual children, we are also able to incorporate learning centers that use all 5 senses, computer-technology instruction, an intensive handwriting curriculum (HWT), as well as a complete academic curriculum program (We Can) to ensure kindergarten readiness.  With the additional $100,000 from Cam Ward, we had the privilege of building a state-of-the-art Multi-Sensory Therapy Play Room for our use.  This play/gym has everything a child could ever want to play with to stimulate all areas of gross motor development as well as sensory skills.  This addition has doubled the size of our building and given us a wonderful resource to use in our daily instruction.  In addition, our outdoor playground is the perfect compliment to our program (thanks Dr. Elam).  We are so proud to be able to offer these wonderful opportunities to our preschool children of Bibb County.

Mission of the Preschool

Bibb County Schools offers a preschool program for children of Bibb County ages 3-5 years of age who qualify for special education services under IDEA part B in an effort to provide a free appropriate public education to all children with disabilities residing in the State between the ages of 3 and 21.  Depending on the needs of the child, these services can include on-site direct, individualized, and small group instruction by an ECEH teacher (Early Childhood Education for the Handicapped), a para-educator, a nurse, a speech and language pathologist, a physical therapist, and an occupational therapist.  Our program is founded on the Developmentally Appropriate Practices of Preschoolers and following the State Course of Study for the Continuum Guide for Preschoolers with Disabilities.  Our faculty and staff are continually receiving instruction in the latest trends, methods, and laws concerning the needs of our children.  We work in conjunction with the AIDB, The Autism Consortium, Glenwood Autism and Behavioral Health Center, The Autism Society, The Alabama Autism Task Force and Autism Alabama.  We also work cooperatively with Community Service Programs of West Alabama as well as the local childcare facilities and other community friends and families.
