To support the Burnsville High School theatre company by facilitating communication, steering fundraising and coordinating volunteers to assist staff and students in theatre activities.

This annual award is run by ISD 191 and honors volunteers who give of their time and talents to enhance students' educational experience and achievement, and/or demonstrate the importance of volunteerism and good citizenship.  (Business people, community residents, students, parents, staff members and alumnus are all eligible. )

Costumer Sally Graff was a recipient 2 years ago, as was our Fundraising volunteer, Lynn Rhinevault last year.

Burnsville High School seniors Lisa Harrigan and Nick Karageorgiou will participate at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 17, in their opera group's performance of "Giovani" at the Minnesota Opera-Project Opera Winter Concert.  Both Lisa and Nick are regular faces on the Mraz Center stage, performing in many theatre guild musicals and high school choir events.

The concert is free and open to the public. It will take place at Hoversten Chapel at Augsburg College, 2211 Riverside Ave. South, Minneapolis. The program also includes excerpts from Handel's "Messiah" and popular opera choruses.

Both Lisa and Nick auditioned for and were accepted into Project Opera, a prestigious high school opera training program in conjunction with the Minnesota Opera. The group rehearses weekly and performs at various venues around the Twin Cities. A final concert will take place at the Ordway Theater in April.

Thank you to all of the students who stepped up and volunteered their time at the recent Cub Foods grocery bagging.  Everyone who showed up will receive points towards lettering in theatre this year.

Thanks to your hard work, we raised $718.13 in 4 hours.

After a long battle with Parksinson's Disease, Thomas B. Mraz passed away at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester on Saturday, November 28, 2009.  He was 75.

The high school's Mraz Center is named after Thomas B. Mraz, a fine arts teacher who was an inspiration to our school's aspiring singers, dancers, actors and musicians for many years.

During his 30+ years at BHS, Mraz directed more than 100 plays and is recognized for his launch and artistic direction of ShowTime - a touring variety show based out of Burnsville High School from 1963-1991.

Arrangements are being made with Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony, MN.

Thanks to donated discs, these collections are free to those involved in the show.  The discs feature performance, group and backstage photos.
