- Q: When I select 'Start BhavyaOS Now!!' from the
autorun menu, It starts into MS-DOS mode and says invalid
drive ?
- A. This is because the CD-ROM driver and extensions
for MS-DOS were not installed, kindly install those given
by your vendor.
- Q:
The 'Rescue Disk ' button on the autorun menu starts a utility
which asks me to locate the disk images, where are
the disk images ?
- A.
There are three floppy disk images provided on the CD in
the isolinux folder. There are:
- sbootmgr.dsk
:
This disk hasthe best boot manager around on it, In case
your computer cannot boot from the CD, write this image
onto a floppy, restart your computer and boot into
the CD-ROM from this menu.
- fdos.img
: This
is the best alternative DOS available, all the essential
is on this floppy image, there is the Ranish Partition Manager
(part240.exe), and the Partition Resizer (presizer.exe),
these programs require expert supervision, the manuals are
provided on the floppy itself, do not execute these programs
from the CD boot menu, write this image onto a clean formatted
floppy and use them.
- gujin.img
:
This is an excellent bootloader especially for linux, its
works where others fail, it does not depend on the boot
record but serches the disks for linux partitions and gives
a menu of the detected partitions to boot from. This is
especially useful in case of GRUB or LILO corruption.
- Q: I have Installed from WindowsXP however I do not
see any icons either on the desktop or on the start
menu. Clicking on the bhavya.exe starts command prompt that
exits ?
- A: BhavyaOS cannot be started from Windows XP/2000/NT
because there is no real MS-DOS , but BhavyaOS needs one,
hence the icons are not created. also do not install on
an NTFS ( native Win NT file system) system. If you have
installed onto a FAT32 ( Win 95,98) from Win XP, you may
boot into Win95/98 and start bhavya.exe or bhavya.bat
from DOS. If you do not have either Win95/98 or DOS
but installed onto a FAT32 from Win XP you may boot into
the Free DOS provided either from the CD-ROM
boot menu or from the fdos rescue disk, change to the directory
where you installed BhavyaOS and run bhavya.bat.
- Q: After doing a typical install when I start BhavyaOS
by clicking the desktop shortcut, all goes well but I cannot
see the mouse cursor on the BhavyaOS Desktop?
- A: This problem has been observed on some Win 98 based systems,
you may enter into DOS mode either by pressing F8 while
booting Win98 and choose the last option ie."Safe
mode MS-DOS prompt only" ,change to the directory where
you installed and run bhavya.bat. this can be done even
from the FreeDOS or MS-DOS boot floppy
- Q: After doing a typical install when I start BhavyaOS
by clicking the desktop shortcut, all goes well but all
I see is a blank, coloured screen and it stops, I don't see any
jumping icons ?
- A: Follow the instructions suggested for the above
question.
- Q: My sound card does not work, also my internal
modem is not detected?.
- A: This might happen as not all hardware on the earth
is supported, there is virtually no inbuilt support for
the internal modems, kindly download the appropriate drivers
from the vendors website or try to get some help from linmodems.org.
- Q: How do I save my modified configuration settings
?
- A: There are three ways this can be done:
- If you have made a minimal or a typical install,
you may copy the /etc directory onto your desktop
right click on it and select compress to tar.gz, this
will create etc.tar.gz on your desktop, now copy this file
and place it in the custom directory in the BhavyaOS directory
( available in /mnt/onhd/BhavyaOS, or /mnt/bhavyacd/BhavyaOS ).
Next time you start BhavyaOS you should see a message saying
" Using custom configurations on HDD" while booting.
- If you did not make any install , create the etc.tar.gz as described above, rename it to etc.tgz copy
the etc.tgz file onto a clean DOS floppy in the primary
floppy drive ( DOS A:). When you boot next time insert the
floppy as soon as the boot menu appears and continue booting,
BhavyaOS will detect the configuration on the floppy and
load it.
This should work.
- If
you always want to load your custom configuration
and remove the floppy hassels, then you should make the
etc.tar.gz as described above and place it in the custom
directory on the CD, while mastering the CD-ROM, ensure
that both the Rockridge and Joliet extensions are enabled,
an excellent front-end for cdrtools is provided on
the BhavyaOS CD, its GPL and free, use it to burn your CDs
from Win or DOS.
- Q: When I boot I get a message saying 'id:number:respawning,
disabled for 5 seconds' or something like
that?
- A: This means your graphics configuration is wrong
or was not auto detected, to correct this boot with the
following options:
- If you are booting from the CD type exactly
the following
at the command prompt linux init 3 initrd=binitrd.gz hda=scsi
hdb=scsi hdc=scsi hdd=scsi hde=scsi hdf=scsi
- If you are booting from an installed version look
fot the word init 4 in bhavya.bat and replace it with init
3 now
start BhavyaOS.In either case above you should see
a shell prompt, now run redhat-config-xfree86 then if all
goes well type startx at the prompt and save your configuration
as described above.
- Q: I have a problem not listed
here what do I do ?
- A: Please write to us at bhavyasoft@yahoo.com
with the exact nature of the problem along with the
exact error message and the hardware configuration of the
system. We will try to reach you as soon as we can, or look
at the bhavyasoft group that should be soon started.
