WHO ARE THE BHAT SIKHS ?

The word Bhat has come from the word Bhatra, About 400 years ago our 1st Guru Nanak Dev Ji started a community called Sangat Bhatra Samparda because one of our ancestor was called Changa Bhatra who became Guru's disciple. Originally we had 17 Bhat whose verses are written in our holy Guru Granth Sahib ji. Then where did the name Bhatra came from? One of the Bhats, our ancestor went to Kashi to educate. When he came back he was given the title of RA, (which means a high-class poet) because he was already a Bhat he added the RA after that and he started to call him self "Bhatra". Because he had so many followers that they all started to call them selves Bhatra as well. There is a very large Bhatra Sikh Community in India as well as in Britain and in entire world. Many of us are calling ourselves Bhat Sikh Community. There are others who still like to be called Bhatra Sikh Community.
