On the northern border of the Barony of Gryphon's Lair lies a vast marsh land that some would argue belongs to the bordering Shire (why anyone would want to claim a marsh nobody knows, but that is not the point). Several years ago the lands were disputed and from this the Midge Marsh Melee was created. The Barony, for some reason, wants to keep hold of the marshlands and to honor this, and their first birthday, we invite all to come to this grand event and enjoy. You will find many fun and entertaining things to keep you occupied throughout the day (so you don't smell the marshes or notice the flies).

There will be both cote armored and duelist melees, a populace prize tourney and tea with the Baroness, the Baronial Bard competition, and a Hafla party Saturday night. Bring your armor, bring your drums, and you can even bring your pets as long as they are on a leash and are cleaned up after. The site is wet so bring your drinks too, just keep in mind that the legal drinking age in Utah is 21 and will be enforced. The Baronial Archery Championship will also take place. More details on that will come soon. Merchants are very welcome to come sell their wares and there is not a fee for this. Please contact the event steward for more details.

This fun filled event will take place at Fort Buenaventura, which is the same site used last year for our Investiture (and no, it's not really in the marshes. Those are farther north). There is a permanent restroom facility and water available on site. The camping area is beautiful and sits along side a lake, so please watch your children very closely. The camp host has boats available to rent for a small fee if one wishes to lounge in the sun on a romantic outing around the lake. There are trees to camp by and trees to fight in. Sorry, no sheep this year. Anyways, it will be well worth the trip.

Site opens on Friday August 25th at noon and closes Sunday the 27th at noon. Site fees are $14 for adult members, $17 for non-members. Young adults 12-15 are $10 and children 6-11 are $7. Ages 5 and under are free. Day trip fees are $8, $6, and $3. Please make checks payable to the Barony of Gryphon's Lair, SCA, Inc.
There are hotels in the area if one wishes not to camp. Please contact the event steward for details.

Directions: From the South- Go north on I-15 to the Ogden 24th St exit and head east on Pennsylvania Ave for about .3 miles, bear right at W Martin Luther King Jr St/W 24th St about .5 miles, turn right on A Ave and a quick left and go down the hill. From the North- Go south on I-15 to the Ogden 21st St exit and head west to 1900 W, turn left (south) and go to 2550 S and turn east, it curves to the right and ends at Pennsylvania Ave, turn left (east) and follow the same directions as listed above (From the South).
