Training & Conditioning

Muay Thai provides both the novice and expert alike an amazing workout. You can expect to make significant gains in strength and cardio-vascular conditioning by training Muay Thai.

For the novice, the basic foundation practices of shadow boxing and conditioning strengthen the body while imparting the skills necessary to punch, kick, knee, and elbow with authority.

For the expert, the grueling training of pad striking, drilling, wrestling/"pull-downs", and sparring offer a workout of great proportions.

When you start, it is best to take things slowly and focus on proper body mechanics in technique and conditioning. The Thai's have a saying: "If you want to go fast, crawl; if you want to go slow, run." It is advice well worth listening to.

Take your time and focus on perfecting techniques. Classes on shadow-boxing, movement, and strength building will be the first curriculum you will encounter. It is of utmost importance to pay attention to detail, which is quite different from the workout environment of a cardio-kickboxing class. You will have ample opportunity to train like that once you have basic skills in all of the strikes.

As you progess further into the art, you will learn how to use these strikes against the "Thai Pads". This is a very distinctive part of Muay Thai training and provides a bridge between shadow boxing and drilling practices.

Full power striking of the Thai Pads is an incredible workout which hones the offensive skills of the striker and the defensive skills of the holder. Great leaps in cardio-vascular training can begin in this phase of your training.

After demonstrating proficiency in "Thai Pads" training, drilling and "Pull Down" techniques with a partner provides the final bridge to sparring and fighting. With a live person across from you participating in drilling, you can get the feeling of what it is like to apply Muay Thai techniques in a realistic situation.

Once this sort of comprehensive foundation is in place, clean, crisp sparring with an emphasis on control and injury prevention is possible. Well trained students have the necessary skills to execute techniques with their classmates responsibly.

We train as a group and value each other's friendship, so all sparring here is done with the attitude of cooperation with your partner, i.e. "mutual strengthening". With this sort of attitude guiding us, we can train hard everyday and perfect our skills without subjecting ourselves to injury.

The only way to know about any program is to try it for yourself. We make things easy for you by giving you the opportunity to try a class out with no pressure to join. We only want you here if you want to train here.
