becoming my dream

my weightloss journey

my dieting tips

these tips are mostly from my own experience, i'll try to be orginal and i'll add as i go

general tips
  • listen to your body, it usually knows what it needs: if you feel dizzy add about 100 cals to your daily intake, if you keep craving bananas maybe you need some potassium
  • create a schedule and stick to it
  • keep your goals in mind in times of weakness
  • If  you mess up, don't waste time beating yourself up about it and definately don't take on the "in for a penny, in for a pound" attitude and start eating all the junk in site, the less bad food you eat the better.  if you fall off, it's best to just pick right back up with your diet and try to avoid the causes of your poor eating
  • don't only rely on a scale to judge your progress, it can be misleading (water weight, muscle mass etc) get a tight or revealing outfit try it on every once in a while and see how it fits
  • telling friends and family about your diet is generally a good idea, they can lend you support and help when your lacking in willpower
  • are the people you live with unwilling to cater to your dieting needs? try cooking dinner, you can make low calorie and you won't have to be tempted by bad food
  • if you go out to eat or you want to eat something that's not all that good for you, try having a half portion of it over lettuce.  the lettuce will help fill you and you'll stll get to enjoy the food with half the guilt
  • dance like a chicken (trust me it'll make you lose like a million pounds)
cravings
  • if you're craving something really badly, hold on and take a deep breath. then, promise yourself that you can have as much chocolate cake as you want after having a large glass of water (or diet soda or whatever) and a bowl of salad with low or no calorie dressing.  chances are that after all that salad and that cup of water you'll be too full to eat more than a bite or two, you probably won't want it at all!
  • keep ready-to-eat low calorie snacks at hand to handle cravings (pickles are great when you're craving chips, they're salty and crunchy and sugar free jello is great for sweets)
  • be sure to incorporate some treats in your diet otherwise you're bound to binge
  • you're more likely to have strong cravings if you're hungry (i get the worst cravings aroung bed time when it's been a few hours since i've eaten) so try filling up on super low calorie stuff before cravings strike.  do you always crave chips mid afternoon? have something on hand that you can have just before the craving comes do that your too full to want them.

i know you've heard it a million times...

  • water! water! water! no one could ever ever stress this enough.  it helps keep you full, your body needs for just about everything, and if you drink 8 cups of ice water a day you're bunring about 70 extra calories (it can add up!)
  • vitamins even on the best of diets we can overlook certain food groups, a nice multi vitamin can help you get everything you need
  • tea and other hot liquids can really help you feel full and satisfied (1 cup hot water + one bullion cube=a full warm tummy)
  • celery truly is a negative calorie food so eating as often as possible can help you feel full and burn more (add it to soups and salads all the time)
  • salads are great, just don't overdo the dressing
