Tameshiwari
(Test of breaking.)

  • Hiji (Elbow) ; Shuto (Edge of hand) ; Atami (Head) ; Seiken (fist) ; Chusoku (ball of foot) ; Sune (Shin) ; Kakato (Heel)

In Kyokushinkai, Tameshiwari is considered of great importance and is one of the few styles that include it in their competitons. Self confidence is what it is all about, only after training a technique hundreds even thousands of times, can this confidence be obtained.
When breaking, always make sure that the relationship between the height of your position and the object are correct. If the object is too high, contact will occur too soon; on the other hand, if the object is too low, contact will occur too late. The power of the technique must be driven through the object and full use of the hips and body weight must be applied.
When striking downwards, make sure that the body is over the object ad that the strike is executed straight and not at an angle.
Students commencing karate should break only under supervision from an experienced karateka.

Tameshiwari for Shodan:

  1. Mandatory break with Seiken
  2. Optional - (student's choice)
