The type of cage I started with.

This is my first cage, made from scratch by my lovely Dad. It was basically chipboard, with proper wooden doors and wire mesh, with an orange bread bin on the side as a nest box. He even carved the stairs for them. I found out that the wood was letting the widdle soak in and the whole thing became rather smelly after a while, so we had to let it go.

My current cages

Well, 25+ rats need appropriate accommodation, so me and my lovely family and friends have invested in some great cages, here they are:

This is my tall wire cage, measuring in excess of 8 feet tall, we bought it for £30, in terrible condition, and dad completely refurbished it. The bottom 2 cages have been knocked through so can be one large cage if need be.

This cage is made by FOP, and it's excellent, so I have two. It only has one door in the front, but a nice big opening in the top. If I remember correctly it cost about £90.

The cage on top here is a ferplast rabbit type cage that I was given and is big enough to comfortably hold adult 2 bucks. I have two of the blue bottomed cage, I have no idea who makes it, any clues? Leave me a message in my guestbook! It originally  only had three doors in the front of the cage, which made it awkward to clean and get into, so my Dad made another large door on the top of each one.

This one's taller than me! I love this cage, it's a Superpets cage (thanks for the correction). Really easy to clean as the shelves come out really easily and pop into the bath for a good scrub. The rats adore it too!

This is my backup cage for any rats that need a quick home, it's always ready for a new furbaby!

This is my ratty playpen. It's over 30 years old, but is still in good condition. I use this for introductions mostly, but it's also good for rats who can't quite be trusted to run around free just yet. Dad put the wire mesh around the sides, and it folds up for storage. The toys inside are a Wodent Wheel, a rope, a see saw that my Dad made for them out of a carpet tube, and yes, that's a wooden wine rack that makes a very handy climbing frame!
