Well, I've decided to give running at try. I have NEVER, EVER, been a runner, but, after reading all of the posts on the 50+ board about C25K and how much they enjoy running, I've decided to try. I started Couch to 5K on Sunday, March 12, 2006. If you're interested in the program visit http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
I will keep track of my progress on this page.
WEEK 1
3/12/06 - W1D1
3/14/06 - W1D2
3/16/06 - W1D3
Week 1 COMPLETE! Well, at the end of Week 1, I have to say, I'm actually enjoying this. I do get a little tired around 18 minutes, but I keep pushing to the end. I did my walks at 3.2 and runs at 4.5 on my treadmill. We will see how Week 2 goes!
WEEK 2
3/19/06 - W2D1 - This was a lot easier than W1D1, so I can tell I'm building up. And, my hip didn't hurt today like it did last week!! I must have stretched it out after 27 years :)
3/21/06 - W2D2 - Today I stepped up my speeds to 3.3 walks and 4.7 runs, and I survived!
3/24/06 - W2D3
Week 2 FINISHED! I have noticed that it's getting a lot easier and I'm not quite as exhausted at the end. And, I'm not constantly looking at the timer while I'm running, waiting for the walk interval. Week 3, here I come!
WEEK 3
3/26/06 - W3D1 - Well, I walked at 3.4 and left the running at 4.7 and I have to say that today kicked my butt. I wasn't sure I was going to make it through the 2nd 3 minute run, but I pushed and managed to finish. Hopefully, D2 will be easier.
3/28/06 - W3D2 - Even with TOM today was a little easier than last time. Put the walking at 3.5 today.
3/31/06 - W3D3
Week 3 - I DID IT!! I finished Week 3 and survived. I actually ran 4 minutes instead of 3 on the last run just to see if I could do a little more, since next week I have to do 5, so we'll see!
WEEK 4
4/2/06 - W4D1 - (Walking - 3.6, running - 5.0) Well, I tried to do today by the distance instead of the time and it just didn't happen. I only made it through the second 1/4 mile jog and walked for another 2 minutes and had to quit. So, I will do W4D1 over and do it by the time instead of the distance in a day or so. I'll report back in when I do this. :(
4/4/06 - W4D1 (2nd time around) - (Walking - 3.6, running - 4.7) Okay, so today I did it by the time and not the distance. I still didn't make it all the way through, I made it all the way through to the last five minute run and only made it through 3.5 minutes of that and walked the other 1.5 minutes. And I was only at about 1.6 or 1.7 miles when I finished, instead of the full 2 miles. But, that's okay, I will move on to W4D2 next time and my plan is to continue with Week 4 until I am able to finish it by the time and then I will move on to Week 5. It's all about pacing yourself, so that's what I'm going to do.
