This lace stitch can be used in any number of projects from shawls & afghans to shopping bags and table scarves.

Multiple of 6 plus number of stitches for your border.

This example will use 3 rows of sc and 3 stitches for the border.

I will use 5 repeats. So, 6 x 5 =30. plus border 30+ 6 (3 sc each end)= 36.

I used medium worsted yarn and an I/9 (5.5 mm crochet hook)

Use whatever size yarn you desire with a hook that is appropriate for that weight yarn.

Work 3 rows (number for border) of sc evenly. (35 sc) or 1 less than your original chain.

Notes:

These instructions are in American terminology.

Turn work after each row.

Turning Ch-1 does not count as a stitch, but turning ch-2 does count as a dc.

Pattern:

Chain 36. (or the number you came up with using the formula above)

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in 4 sc (border number plus 1). * ch 5, skip 3 sc, sc in 3 sc ( 3 sc group). Repeat from * across row. Ending with a ch 5, sc in last 4 sc. (border number plus 1).

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in 3 sc (border) skip 1 sc, * ch 3, sc in ch-5 space, ch 3, sc in center sc of the 3-sc group. Repeat from * across row, ending with ch 3, skip 1 sc, sc in last 3 sc.

Row 3: ch 2, sk 1 sc (because ch-2 counts as a dc), dc in next 2 sc, (or number of sts for border minus 1) ch 2, * sc in ch-3 sp, sc in sc, sc in next ch-3 sp (3 sc group made), ch 5, skip next sc. Repeat from * across row, ending row with ch 2, dc in last 3 sc (or number of sts for border).

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in 3 dc (border) *ch 3, sc in center sc of the 3-sc group, ch 3, sc in ch-5 space. Repeat from * across row, ending row with ch 3, sc in last 3 dc (or number of sts for border). The top of the ch-2 is the last dc.

Row 5: Ch 1, sc in 3 sc (border) sc in ch-3 sp, *ch 5, skip next sc, sc in ch-3 sp, sc in sc, sc in next ch-3 sp (3 sc group made). Repeat from * across row, ending row with ch 5, sk next sc, sc in ch-3 sp, sc in last 3 sc (or number of sts for border).

Repeat rows 2- 5 until you reach desired length. Making row 5 the last row.

Top border:

Row 1: Sc in 4 sc (border number plus 1). *3 sc in ch-5 sp. Sc in next 3 sc. Repeat from * across row. End with 3 sc in ch-5 sp. Sc in last 4 sc. (or number of sc for border).

Row 2-3 (or number of rows for border): Sc in each sc across. Finish off.

Blocking may be required to best show off the lacy design of this stitch.
