3May2008/0400: Cute AND suggestive one-page comic of Monster Hunter by Akimbo:
Rant: My woes of Monster Hunter finally come to their conclusion about 2007 when I finally realized that CAPCOM NA never had any intention of localizing MH2(Dos) for us or anyone else in that matter. It was disappointing and albeit, very irritating when Japan's outright success with the series is just ludicrous over there. I mean, yeah, America and abroad were given MH Freedom (PSP) and recently MHF2, but that's PSP, I don't own one, and I'm annoyed even more at the announcements days back that MH3 was SCRAPPED for PS3 and now is in sole posession for the Nintendo Wii!? I loved me some MH and you would not believe the hours invested in this game. I recently tried playing the original MH/PS2 but it just isn't the same because it's by yourself and the online portion since being let go of by Snap! has no comradery anymore. Not only that but it takes FOREVER to actually accomplish getting items together to make your prized weapons/armors.....by yourself. Ugh.
I just don't get CAPCOM. They release certain games that are good and NEW concepts, and then say: "Ah, no more for you America!" and continue to give us crap MegaMan games like I fucking even like them? Japan is even playing MH on PC(Frontier), and it's online community as you could imagine is huge!
I swear if I were a multi-millionaire, I'd outright buy enough stocks in CAPCOM that I would actually have INFLUENCE over what they did, in order to get some of that good stuff over here---and CAPCOM is but ONE of my 'woes.' Either that or I'm just blind and not realizing I should just hurry up with Rosetta Stone's Japanese Lessons and move to Japan.
Like I was saying it's not just CAPCOM. The first Front Mission game (SquareEnix) I ever played was the fourth in the series and on PS2 and I frikkin love me some mechs plus the game is the awesome tactical kind as well on a grid based fighting engine ala FF:Tactics n' such. Guess what? Front Mission after 4 no longer exists outside of Japan. They're STINGY I tell you! (I know...it's a numbers thing)
Back to MH....
However I do realize also, that, PSP really does have the titles on it's back that would make a purchase of sed hardware worthwhile. When it first came out---I thought the only thing that could ever hold my attention on that little screen and hardly no sound, was the Lumines Series. Now there's Lumines II (both have awesome soundtracks), the PSP Slim now has video outs so I can now hook up to a big ass TV (or not too big) and now there are TWO MH titles on it, and even word that a sort of expansion type game in the MH series could make it stateside (MHF2-'G'). This is internet rumor/speculation though. Plus, don't think I'd be forgetting about the amazing remake of FF: Tactics that I've yet to play as well.
There's a LOT I'm not saying in this rant about the whole situation that, trust me, I DO KNOW about when speaking of money-mongering companies like CAPCOM, what it takes to get games localized---even ones that might not even do well. CAPCOM does have other titles as well that are badass like DMC, Onimusha, Street Fighters, ect, and I own them all. The top of my list for CAPCOM though has been MH since it's debut and that's what makes me sad.
P.S. This little comic was actually cut in half from the 'one page' and each piece was flip horizontally because of the whole Japanese right-to-left, top-to-bottom reading thing. I thought it might make a little more sense this way even though there's still hardly any direction to follow without word bubbles. D'oh. The original is here.
