Interested in a Belly Dance Class ?
If you are tired of the same exercise routines you do at the gym, why not check out a belly dancing class? If you think belly dance may be for you, let's give it a try.
Belly dancing is an exciting way to exercise. You can get a good workout while having fun. Belly dancing allows you to get in touch with your feminine side, forget about the chaos you've experienced throughout the day, let go of the stress, and express yourself. I found that most women enjoy belly dance class for its ability to provide a good workout without being too strenuous on the joints. It helps you work those muscles that normally do not get used (and those that you may not even realize you have!). This exercise can help you get toned while maintaining the feminine curves, thus very appealing for women who do not wish to develop the muscle bulkness from aerobic/weight training.
Belly dance is sensual, graceful, sexy and fun. So while getting a workout, students also enjoy the dance moves that allow them to be flirty and cherish being a woman. Unfortunately, many have mistaken belly dance with exotic dance. I hope you will join me in educating people that belly dancing is an art that takes years to master and that it has nothing to do with taking the clothes off. I can help you pace yourself in class, whether you want a high impact, or a low impact exercise, whether you feel like taking it easy or wanting to be challenged. Though it's helpful, no previous dance training is required. It is a fun class that everybody can enjoy.
Class time is 1 hour. What I try to do in evey class is starting with a brief warm-up & stretching session. Though belly dancing is not as vigorous as a step-aerobic may be, you can still hurt yourself if your muscles are not adequately prepared for the class.
After warming-up and stretching, you will be dancing at a light to moderate pace (just follow me and have fun). Then, I will start teaching you basic techniques as well as break down the movements/combinations. We'll be practicing the moves for a while before going into bellydance aerobic period. We'll be dancing to a faster music and a lot of shimmies will be incorporated into the exercise. Remember.....in order to be a good dancer, it is also important that you are physically fit!!
And hopefully after the bellydance aerobic session, we'll have a short cool down session before the class ends. This part I cannot promise because we all tend to forget how fast time can fly. By the time I realize it, we have to give up the space for the next class.
My name is Nilly (Nilobon, which means Blue Lotus in Thai). I've been belly dancing since 2000. I am originally form Thailand and have been performing Thai Traditional dancing since I was 7 years old. I like traveling and have always enjoyed different cultures, exotic cuisine, and definitely exciting performing arts.
Since then, I have taken classes from many local teachers, as well as taking workshops from teachers from other states. I've met so many fellow dancers, and I realized that there are all types of women from various walk of lives practicing belly dance. More surprisingly, there are also many great male belly dancers. Therefore, belly dancing is not just for every woman, but belly dancing can be for every one.
When I'm not dancing, I'm working as a Research Scientist for a Pharmaceutical company. I am also taking Capoeira classes at Corpo e Movimento. Between belly dancing and capoeira, I've met the coolest, most well rounded, and the most fun group of people. In there own way, they keep me encouraged, motivated and inspired to learn more...., and there's always much more...so much more...to be learned.
For class, you should wear something you can move freely in. It should be something that fits close enough to your body so I can see your movements.
Pants: stretchy pants or leggings
Skirts: full circle skirts or straight skirts. Keep in mind that straight skirts should have slits to allow you to move freely.
Tops: Cut-off tops, or something that fits closely to your body so I can see your torso movements.
Hip Scarves: Coin sashes or fringe sashes.
(You can purchase sashes from me, but it is not required that you have to have one for class).
