3rd Annual Poetry Contest

The Belizean Poets Society announces its 3rd Annual National Poetry Competition.  The contest is open to poets in three categories: Amateur Junior—poets aged 13 to 17, Amateur Senior—poets who are unpublished, unrecorded, and generally unknown to the public, and Accomplished—published, recorded and/or regular performing poets.

Each entrant must submit three new, original poems (unpublished, unrecorded, never performed in public), no more than three minutes long when recited.  At least one of the poems must be about Belize or Belizean identity.

A panel of judges will select five finalists in each category.  Each finalist will be required to recite one poem on the night of finals.  The judges will select the winners based on both written entries and final performance.

Post entries to: National Poetry Competition, P.O. Box 2282, Belize City, Belize; or email entries to: bpscontest2007@gmail.com.

Deadline for submission of entries is Friday, August 24.  Judges will announce the finalists on Wednesday, August 29.
