Navruz |

Navruz is the oldest holiday in Central Asia.
Navruz means the new day or New
Year that starts on March 21st, the day of the spring equinox. Navruz,
according some sources, was known 2,7 thousand years ago.
Navruz is the memory of the past and symbol of unity with nature.
Navruz means not only a new day but also renewal of everything in life.
So, people try to renew their clothes, things they use daily and throw away old and broken things.
Navruz mainly lasts one month. During that time local people cook special dish, sumalak, an oriental sweet made out of germinated wheat grains.
Now Navruz is the national holiday of Uzbekistan and people celebrate it
widely on March 21st dancing and singing the national songs, which
accompany by great illuminations. In rural areas people play a game for
really brave men, "Koupkari". |
