Harry's Memories

Is it possible that Harry's dementor-induced memories of the night of his parent's death are vital to a future victory over Voldemort?

Perhaps the only way in which Harry can destroy Voldemort in the "final battle" is to recall the memory of his parent's death with perfect clarity, including the moment when Voldemort attempted to kill him.

If he can recall with perfect clarity everything he felt on that terrible night as a baby, perhaps Harry could use the power of his mother's love a second time to survive Voldemort's "Avada Kedavra" and finally destroy him by an even more powerful reversal of the curse than had happened when he was a baby.

Maybe Harry's chances of surviving this fatal curse a second time depend on how fully and clearly Harry can recall his worst memory.

If this is the case then, in the final book, in addition to finding and destroying all the remaining Horcruxes, Harry should expose himself for some periods of time to dementors (or possibly a boggart in the form of a dementor) to learn as much as possible about this babyhood memory.

Godric's Hollow

In a recent interview, JKR implied that there was somebody very significant at Godric's Hollow the night Harry's parents were killed.

a) Who was this person and why were they there?

b) If the location of Harry's parents was a secret in the keeping of Peter Pettigrew, how was it this person knew where it was? The only possibilities are:

1. This person was a death eater and therefore had easy access to Pettigrew.

2. This person was in hiding wiith the Potter's. But if that was the case, why did they do nothing in attempt to stop Voldemort and where were they when Hagrid arrived?

3. It was the actual secret keeper, Peter Pettigrew.

4. This person had access to both sides enabling them to find the place through Pettigrew and be ther on Dumbledore's/someone else's orders. (Snape is the only known spy).

The Hiding

a) Why were the Potter's in hiding anyway?

It says in book 5 that the death eater's were picking offf the members of the order one by one so it would therefore make sense for James and Lily to go into hiding. But was there another reason? Was it because they had thrice defied Voldemorte and knew he was after them? Was it because of the phrophecy that Dumbledore had heard that he put all the boys, who may have fitted the description, into hiding? In that case, Neville would have been in hiding also.

The Death

a) Why had Voldemort no hesistation about killing James but asked Lily to step aside rather than kill her?

There is no evidence of Voldemort EVER asking ANYBODY, who prevented him from achieving his goal, to step aside rather than killing them straight off.

b) Was it definately Voldemort who killed the Potter's?

We know Snape detested James and would probably have had no quelms in getting rid of him. However, there is some evidence to show that Snape liked Lily and so may have asked her to step aside as he did not want to destroy her. (Probably a very bad theory. Voldemort lost his powers through his attempt to kill Harry).

c) Is Voldemorte impervious to the unforgivable curses?

Perhaps Snape, who we have seen is really a very powerful wizard, put Voldemorte under the imperius curse in attempt to stop him killing Lily. However, Voldemort fought it off.

Secret Keeping

a)JK Rowling places a good description of secret keeping and its effects on her website.

She explains that, when a secret keeper dies, the secret will remain as it was at the time of their death - all who knew the hidden information would continue to do so but all who did not would never be able to find out. She also explains that not even those protected by the secret keeping would be able to reveal the information as to their whereabouts.

b) Are Lily and James still alive?

This theory has been knocked by JKR numerous times. However, what if the job of secret-keeping was at the last moment passed on to somebody else, unknown to anybody but Peter Pettigrew. Then, this person dies, revealing the whereabouts of Lily and James to no one. If this was to happen, they would remain hidden from the rest of the world forever.

This is assuming that the Fidelius Charm is irreversible and that it is impossible for those who were not in possesion of the secret before the death of the secret-keeper to discover it in any way.

JKR has not clarified either of the above but on her website, she makes a reference to the possibility of the capture of one of those hidden through secret-keeping although does not specificy how this would be done.
