4/1/2007- Beer Heads Season ends with 5-1 loss to Angry Beavers
Beer Heads to Face Angry Beavers is 1st Round of Winter Tourney 4/1/2007
The #1 seeded Beer Heads (8-0-1) will face the # 4 seeded Angry Beavers (1-6-2) in the opening round of the Winter 2007 tournament at 5pm. The Beer Heads are currently on a 8 game winning streak and the Beavers come into the game after a close 3-2 loss against Billy and the Boingers. Head to head the Beer Heads are 2-0-1 against the Beavers this session and have outscored the Beavers 12-4 in those 3 meetings including a 6-0 win on February 18th. This game could be closer like the 1st meeting, a 3-3 tie on January 7th as the Beer Heads will have a substitute in goalie as starter Mike Parks is vacationing with his family in Texas.
The Beer Heads undefeated session puts the team as the #1 seed in the tourney but only time will tell whether Parks absence and his league leading 1.11 GAA will be a difference in this matchup. The team which has a +18 goal differnce will have to rely heavily on league leading goal scorer Eric Kamin (32 points,15 goals,2 assists) to defend their Fall session championship. The team did get some good news as forward Chris Clem was cleared to play this week after a week absence from Lasik surgery. (Maybe now he won't miss the ball so much) Forward Dan Wagner appears to still be out with a back injury but 2 substitutes are coming in to help fill the voids.
In the other 1st round game at 6pm, Billy and the Boingers (4-4-1),the #2 seed face off against the Orange Devils (2-5-2), the #3 seed with Billy's holding a series lead of 2-0-1 . This game will pit former Orange Devil Trent Hubner against his former team and answer the question of , Did he make the right move? The Orange Devils would like nothing better than to see Trent with an early exit in the Tournament.
The Winter Championship game will follow pitting the winners of each of the previous games for all the marbles and a possible Back to Back Championship for the Beer Heads. This years action has been great in Fremont and their beautiful ice arena. Even though the travel distance is much greater for most the teams certainly don't miss the dungy and dirty Benson Ice Rink they played in for the last 8 years or so.
