Hi folks! I am a racing fan from the USA and love to research pedigrees. Currently updating my Czech Rep file... I am also a fan of 'chase racing but the US doesn't have anything like the Velka....fantastic site. Enjoyed it greatly.

Didn't see that result coming, I thought the trouble at the sixth fence came about from too many jockeys going for the same line, couldn't believe the size of the crowd, I watched it on Racing UK, and thought Mark Johnston's commentary was excellent, how he managed to follow the race on a screen sometimes with the sun right behind the runners I don't know, it certainly wetted my juices for a return visit.

Great site, love the write ups on the previous Velka's, anyone having a punt on Sunday would be crazy not to visit this site, we were lucky enough to see Peurian win his third Velka, we must really get back there, do they still have the St Ledger on Saturday before the Velka.

All,

Another death at the Taxis Jump in 2014, the fourth jump of the race. In the ditch, broken neck... I don't even know which horse it was. Is it not time to make a point in changing this? Why does the horse need to jump 6 to 9 metres, without knowing what is behind the taxis hedge, on to a 45 degree sloping ditch with stretched legs? It does not make sense anymore in these times. Yes, it has improved vastly since 1992 (?), but the jump is still unfarourable in my mind... disgust when it goes wrong and almost disappointment when nothing happens. What do you think? It will still be the best race in the world. France, US, Australia and the Grand National are kids runs compared to this challenge. Thanks for your thoughts, Mark John Zaaijer

Hi Benoit

Sorry to be a bit late in answering your question (have only just seen it !), but here is the result of the 1912 Velka Pardubicka :

1. Jamagata
2. Zeppelin
3. Hilarion II

Won by 5 lengths and 20 lengths

11 horses started in the race that year.

I hope this helps

Best wishes

Graham
