Relive some of the Beatles greatest songs in their mystical pop-art adventures as they try to save Pepperland from the Blue Meanies. Includes the hit songs, "When I'm Sixty-Four," "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and "All You Need is Love."
Get ready for a mind trip like no other. The Blue Meanies are attacking Pepperland and that is just a taste of it. But I have to say that this is one very entertaining movie and this did set a landmark in animation at the time. The animation in my book is original and far out cool. The colors are amazing to look at with so many bright and tripy colors. You have perhaps the best Beatles music ever produced with this cool Yellow Submarine DVD. I like The Beatles music the best during this period and just listening to the many layers of sound is an amazing achievement in music recording. This is a real treat to have this in our DVD collection. MGM did one heck of a job re-mastering this baby with the video and sound. You will get tons of extras and if you have never heard of this disc, you have heard of it now and it should be included in your collection, especially if you are a Beatles fan.
A Hard Day's Night
A HARD DAY'S NIGHT presents a fictionalized day in the life of the Beatles as they give a performance on a live television show. Filmed just a month after their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964, this film--the Beatles' first--introduces us to the unique personalities of each member of the band. The film opens with the Fab Four boarding a train mobbed with adoring young fans (mostly women) as they attempt to travel to the television studio in London. The antics of the band during rehearsals and makeup application provide a large part of the comic material in this feature, though there are other moments of pure hilarity. The unscripted vignette featuring a hangover-suffering Ringo is especially funny, particularly when he is arrested and risks having to miss the broadcast. None of this goes unnoticed by the director of the show, played by Victor Spinetti, who went on to become a recurring cast member in Beatles movies. As the clock ticks away dramatically, our heroes manage to free Ringo from jail and sneak onto the stage in the nick of time, delighted in the knowledge that they have nearly driven the director mad in the process. Arguably the first music video ever made, this faux documentary and its shooting style have been a tremendous influence on nearly every rock and roll feature since.
Magical Mystery Tour
A typically Beatlesque film (i.e. atypical) originally produced for television, this short film was intended to be an off-the-wall road movie with the Beatles and three dozen or so friends on a psychedelic bus. Shot with only a vague script and only bare outlines of scenes, the movie was meant to document a trip to the seaside resort town of Blackpool, England. Made in September of 1967, The Beatles' brilliant rock album is transformed into colorful and energetic images. The film also contains the only live version of John Lennon's "I Am the Walrus." Third of the Beatles films to include Victor Spinetti, famous for his mohair sweater wearing role as the television director in A Hard Day's Night and as the determined scientist with the laser in Help! The movie was originally shown on BBC TV on December 26, 1967 inexplicably in black and white.
Help!
The Beatles followed up their debut film, A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, with this fanciful spy spoof. When Ringo adds a new ring to his collection, he's unaware of how important and dangerous this piece of jewelry is. On one hand, a religious cult considers it a sacred object and the wearer must become a sacrifice to their gods. On the other hand, the ring has magical abilities that hold the key to supreme power. Soon the boys from Liverpool are engaged in a slapstick and madcap chase round the world, as a crazed scientist, a pack of crooks, and several religious fanatics set out to capture the band. Watch for the English Channel swimmer who seems to be perpetually lost and appears in nearly every location. Includes Beatles' hits including "Help!," "Ticket To Ride," "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away," and many more.

From Liverpool to San Fransico
No other band in the history of rock has had more of an impact than the Beatles, forever changing the face of popular music and culture over the course of eight short years and more than a dozen albums. But before they became the Fab Four, the Beatles were just four ordinary boys from the working-class environs of Liverpool, England. Utilizing archival footage and interviews, this insightful documentary charts significant events in the Beatles' artistic growth between the years 1963-1969 for a diary-like history of the four lads who shook the world.
