About Country Roads Kennels
-
Thanks for visiting Country Roads Kennels home page. We train our hounds mainly to run and tree Black Bear. When bears go into hibernation for the winter I train my hounds when they are young on raccoons to keep my dogs in shape and to get young dogs going. We are located in West Virginia where all my dogs so far have been born and raised. In West Virginia we have a year round training season which I know all the arguments but the fact remains the more you hunt the hounds the smarter they are going to be and the better shape so they are going to be in to catch the bear. In this picture is my male UKC Registered English Redtick Rhino and my Rattlesnake Cur dog Noah which was killed by a big old she bear in July of 2007 on the Shanendoah mountain. Both very young in this picture and have this bear up on the Shanendoah Mountain,WV in 2006 training season with two of my buddy Joes hounds. I hunted with the big bear boys this early season in Wv 2008. Season came in for one week in late September and the first morning two of my hounds and one of my buddie Joes hounds had a bear on a limb which I killed. It was the first bear I ever shot out to my own hounds. So it was a real trophy for me. You can view the pictures under photo gallery 2008 pics. Late season we killed a couple more for a total of 9 as a group. I hunted a heavy pressured area called Smoke Holes a little in January and Febuary for coons and ended up with 15. I was tickled considering the place being hunted heavy, the particually cold nights, and being late in the year. Now in April it will be that time again to chase the black bears.I will be adding to this site as much as I can to share with you our pictures, videos, and new stories of my friends and my adventures in Gods country. All pictures on this site my friends or myself took. They are from my friends in my own experiences. The only ones I did not take are the ones I am in. This Country Roads Kennel is owned and operated by Josh, Caitie, and Bricen Pletcher and thanks to all the other friends and family that help us out.
