Season 2008/2009 – Manager and Captains
With pre season training now well under way the committee have been evaluating last season’s performances and find the right willing volunteers to run our teams and bring success to the club. The committee are proud to announce the following personnel who want to lead the club to success in 2008/09 and have been appointed as follows.
1st Team - "Tony Carter will continue as 1st XI Manager building on the
good work he has undertaking with the first team squad over the past two
years, and he is pleased that Bill Blackwell will work alongside him on
match days for the coming season as well as continue in his role as head
coach. Tony will be looking to add that little extra consistency and
innovation to enable the first team to challenge for honours across the
board in 2008/09 and the desire of all player's in the club to be
committed in making the effort that makes the difference in winning."
2nd Team – Following Howard Romain’s decision to step down as manager of the second team this season, Carlos O’Connor will step up to Player/Manager of the 2nd XI – Carlos has been at the club for many years and has played at the highest level. He led the 3rd team to the league in 2006/2007 will be working with many of the players from that winning season, we hope he can continue the excellent rapport he has with those players he bring success to our reserves.
3rd Team – Dave Bryson will be taking charge of the 3rd XI this season, Dave has worked along side Howard for the past 2 seasons and the experienced he gained will be invaluable at this level. Dave is a strong leader and likes to lead by example – with much change having taken place in the 3rd team last season Dave will look to build a strong side with players on the fringe of the top 2 teams and challenge for honours.
4th Team – After the 4th teams courageous run in the AFA cup last season, Garry Hill has agreed to continue as skipper of the 4th XI. The disappointment suffered at the end of last season will make this team stronger in the coming season and Gary’s enthusiastic out look will hopefully allow this team to have a good season challenging on all fronts.
5th Team – Maybe a new name for many members, the 5th team captain this season is Steve Whaymand – Steve has been at the club for the last 2 seasons and was part of the 4th XI Cup final team last season. Steve is a no nonsense defender who has a strong presence of the field.- At 5th XI level Steve will be working with many talented youngsters who will have a strong future at the club, and look to build on some good results that Jim Hall’s team managed last term.
6th Team – Neil Shemmings has also agreed to continue as captain of the 6th XI this season, after finishing mid table for the last 2 seasons Neil will be aiming to take the team forward to challenge for the league and a good cup run.
7th Team – Possibly the most challenging job in the club but Stuart Osbourne will also continue as 7th team skipper. Stuart has aimed to keep a blend between youth and maturity in his squad in order to nurture some of the younger players. Stuart has been successful with this formula with many of the players who are now challenging in the top teams having started out in the 7th team.
We’d like to wish all team the best of luck of the coming season and will bring you news of the Veterans captain shortly.
