~Kahlua Before The Abuse~
Meet Kahlua. Kahlua is a very sweet Moluccan Too that John took in recentlly. Kahlua has been abused his whole life. Kahlua is desperately in need of surgery and for the first time in 30 years Beaks Wings Rescue needs our help. John has been running this resuce saving hundreds of birds lives on his own for years now it is our turn to help him.
John had just opened him home to a MaCaw (Sugar) that also was in need of medical treatment when he got the call about Kahlua. John was unaware of the extent of Kahlua's problems and of course took him in. John's medical fund had been drained by the operation and the meds. that Sugar needed.
John treated Kahlua for a massive infection and broken and impacted feathers from neglect and abuse. Kahlua had fallen numerous times prior to his arrival, and God only knows what else was done to him.
After John got Kahlua stable he started finding more and more problems. The damage is extensive to his tail and chest where the brusing has caused the skin and the flesh underneath to die. Kahlua needs to have the dead tissue removed and have skin grafts if he going to live.
UPDATES
10-14-03 ~ Kahlua went in for the first of what will be many operations to repair the damage to his chest and tail area yesterday. John found out that the injuries were worse than were first thought. As of last night Kahlua was sleeping soundly after a 5 hour operation.
10-15-03 ~ Kahlua is home! He is doing very well after his operation and is very happy to be home. I have posted the doctors report which includes pictures of the operation. This Doctor has done nothing less then a miracle with Kahlua. It is John's hope that people will see that bird with these types of injuries can be helped. Please click here. 11-18-03 ~ Kahlua has loads of peach colored feathers growing in. He is doing wonderfully.
