Car classes are only a body change over or in some classes tyres can be changed to sponge tyres , The aim is to be able to run all types of bodies (classes) with a minimum of running chassis. Hard plastic bodies are welcome to race but Softbodies are preferred to keep costs low . Vintage slot cars are welcome to race and a separate class for these classics can be organized if enough people want to race them. or race them with the other classes if you want! It is preferred that the rim size used on the slot car model try to look like the real car that the slot car is representing if possible. Interiors with drivers looks better so try to do it please! Also if it is representing a race car give the body a set of numbers.
With a bit of ingenuity One chassis can be scratchbuilt to cover all classes .
Basically Three chassis will cover every class or body type used at Beachside Model Raceway.
Narrow - Medium - Wide
By using control tyres and motors in the classes the racing is closer. So its up to the racer himself to tune his chassis to perform as best as it can with the control tyres and motors available to him in a particular class / category. ( Competitors can go to a smaller tyre in any class ) .
Classes ;
* FJ Holdens , True Scale Sedans must have chassis configured to be inline mounted "China" motors Narrow rubber tyres. (Medium width Chassis)
* Post 1960 Grand Prix / Indy car. Must be inline configured chassis . "Any Motor" Medium to Wide rubber tyres (Narrow width chassis)
*Pre 1950 Grand Prix /Indy car. Must be inline configured chassis . "China Motor" Tall - Narrow rubber tyres (Narrow width chassis)
*Sprintcars , Dragsters and Funnycars "Any motor , (Any chassis) , Any tyre including Sponge Tyres.
*All other (Wide)bodies ; run with chassis configured as (Inline ,Anglewinders or Sidewinders) Wide chassis Medium to wide rubber tyres -- High and Low profile tyres can be used as some bodies look better with a small diameter wheels.
In the interests of keeping cost as low as possible "China motors -Plafit Cheetah II motors" are the preferred motor for all classes at Beachside Model Raceway . They have proven to be a fast and reliable motor at a cost of $10.00 each on 18/7/05 But as some members already have cars built to run at other clubs with Parma motors and 26d or 36d motors or other types of motor, it is ok to run any of these motors . But please no "hot" motors that trip the power supply fuse off as the computer also looses the race information , A motor can be tested before the nights racing to check that it will not flick the fuse
NOTE: Sportscars Group 2 Hot Rods and Go Karts classes can use (sponge tyres)
Any sponge tyre but please NO SILICONE TYRES as it makes it almost impossible to repaint the track surface after the silicone tyres or traction additives have been run on the track.
