Welcome to the Beachside Model Raceway site the following pages will give an idea of what types of slot cars are raced at BMR and the general rules as to how they are built and raced .

The Beachside Model Raceway track has evolved over the years that I have had the track going , since September 2003  the track has been extended twice to now offer an average lap length of 26.5 metres .  There are 4 lanes colour coded - yellow , red , blue , green.  Computer timing using a ever reliable Dead strip system to trigger the timing system.

The track layout offers two long straights , over 6 metres in length and large sweeping corner at the end of the main straight and a tighter corner at the end of the second straight that leads into a short but flowing second corner which exits to a short straight (2 metres) into a 30 degree (kink) turn under the bridge and into another large sweeping corner that tightens up into a 90 degree corner then over the bridge back onto the main straight.

The track layout is a comprimise between the tighter track layouts that 1/32 scale cars usually race on and a more open style track layout that the faster 1/25th - 1/24th scale cars race on .  The track uses copper braid to conduct the power on each lane. The power is supplied via a 40 amp , variable  0 - 15 volts output power supply.   The track surface is a mix of Solver grey roof paint and off grey / black paint to simulate skid marks , oil stains etc to dress it up and simulate a real race track ,  There is then a second layer of Cabbots clear applied over the top to protect the dressy appearance from weraing away.  The cabbots clear coat provides good grip and the cars run well without any need for extra tyre treatments.
