Let There Always Be Romance

Poems by Bonnie Clark Weatherford

In My Mind

In my mind I see us in the early morn, gazing at the sunrise and seeing a new day born.

In my mind I see us riding horseback under the trees, watching the change of seasons and autumn leaves dancing in the breeze.

In my mind I see us at the shore hand in hand, dodging waves at sunset and making love upon the sand.

To Be Set Free

She sits alone in her rocking chair, a sweet gentle lady with snow white hair.

Her friends are gone, her youth long past, each day seems long but nothing ever lasts.

Each memory is clear and fresh in her mind though fate wasn't always so good or so kind.

She remembers the joy of being young and in love, he waits for her still in Heaven above.

She remembers the birth of each child she bore and the things they did without growing up poor.

A few still live and are close by but the Lord took some though too young to die.

Someday she'll join them and wait patiently for the rest to follow and to be set free.

Grandma passed away in 1987

                        Through Double Panes of Glass

I gaze at the suns reflection mirrored upon metal and chrome

through double panes of glass I watch as slivers of light dance and roam.

Across my line of vision birds occassionally do fly

through double panes of glass I watch lost in dreams as life goes by.

Images pass before my eyes unseen by all but me

through double panes of glass I watch scenes from a love that use to be.

Diamonds glitter upon the glass tears of loss and pain

through the double panes of my eyes I watch a heart that weeps in vain.

Country01g1 Love Me While I Live

What good will flowers do me when I am dead and gone?

I'd rather see their beauty in my arms than on my stone.

What good will love words do me when I can no longer hear?

I'd rather hear your tender voice whispering them in my ear.

What good will your tears do me when I can't feel your pain?

I'd rather share each day with you be it sunshine or rain.

Misty

Misty are the mountain peaks seen from far away

sugar frosted ice cream cones melting in the day.

Misty are the fields of home early in the morn

Ghostly shapes with day become swaying stalks of corn.

Misty are the quiet woods waiting for the dawn

watching silently between the trees stands a brown eyed fawn.

Misty are your hypnotic eyes gazing into mine

drowning in pools of ebony forever lost in time.

                         Tonight

Moonlight glimmers on the lake, your eyes look into mine

And with this moonlight swim we take, our bodies soon entwine.

Nightbirds sing beneath the sky as passion fills the night

Upon a bed of moss we lie your touch both fire and ice.

Tonight I'm yours and in your arms, theres magic in the air

So hold me tight until the dawn, darkness hides what day won't dare.

Tomorrow comes too soon for me, I wish we had forever

A memory soon is all we'll be to last for now and ever.

Metamorphosis   (for my sister Joy)             Cutie01n

Have you really looked lately at our little girl, she's quickly brushing out the Shirley Temple curls

She's putting away the ribbons and bows and if you look closely maturity shows.

She's closing the lid on her box of toys, she's found a replacement in makeup and boys

Teddy no longer snuggles under the spread now he's just a decoration sitting on the bed

The tinkling laugh of childhood is gone, replaced by girlish giggles upon the phone

Gone are the dresses with ruffles and lace, of dolls and crayons, there's not a trace.

The process was slow and un-noticed by any but all at once the changes are many

My babys growing up, where did the time go, how to turn back the clock. Does anyone know?

                   Love Has A Cotton Tail

Love is a cotton tail bunny, all soft and warm and white

With ears that flop so funny and tickle you in the night.

Love is a whispered rabbit, fuzzy from head to toe

A friend as much as a habit with the unlikely name of Moe.

Love is a pink-eyed bunny purchased on a whim

Worth more than any money to the little one that loves him.

Love is a favorite shaggy toy that chases the bad dreams away

The best friend of our little boy, a sunny playmate on a cloudy day.

 Remember The Love
Daisies

If the Lord comes tonight and takes me away, please don't forget me, this I pray

Though a blanket of daisies will keep us apart, remember I loved you with all my heart.

If the Lord comes tonight and carries me home, please keep my memory for no more will I roam

Though I'm not here to feel the dew, remember I'll always watch over you.

If the Lord comes tonight and I don't see day, please don't feel cheated for I wanted to stay

Though I'm long gone you know that I cared, remember the love that we once shared.

If the Lord comes tonight and I must go, please come now and then to where the daisies grow

Though I'm not here, I'm up above, remember me still when you think of love.

                            Lullaby

Hush my darling no need to cry, dreams are waiting for you and I

Mama sings her lullaby, night is here so don't you cry.

Sandmans coming so close your eyes, starlights shining, the moon is high

Angels sing a lullaby, on wings of gold you see them fly.

Hush my darling now don't you cry, dreams are waiting for you and I

Mama sings her lullaby, baby sleeps and so do I.

                  Without A Sound

I've tasted of loves passion, I've known it's crippling pain

I've seldom seen the sunshine, my worlds known only rain.

My hearts been torn and broken, left bleeding on the ground

Slipping away in darkness, love left without a sound.

(20+ years ago I briefly met a young indian boy at Atlantic beach. This is for you Joe)

 Indian Joe

Born in a teepee, raised in a cave, killed his first bear before he could shave

Son of a chief was Indian Joe, tough as leather yet soft as a doe.

He left his home to wander about, "I'm Indian Joe" he use to shout

With hair of black and eyes of brown, the handsomest fellow for miles around.

A drifter, a loner, an indian brave, who stole the heart of many a maid

The wind brought him in then took him away, love couldn't hold him, not a week, not a day.

(Let the following be a lesson to us all about what hides in our hearts)

Unspoken

There's so many things that should have been said, but the words were unspoken except in my head.

I never even told you how much I really cared, the words were unspoken, you see I was scared.

I felt if I spoke them you might not feel the same, and I'd feel such a fool with only myself to blame.

So now I'm alone, alone with my tears, as I whisper the words you so longed to hear.

                   Silent Night, Darkest Night

The night is silent as darkness reigns, blood rushes hotly through your veins

The darks exciting, another world exists, midnight emotions are hard to resist.

Silent night, mysterious night, passions are released

Silent night, darkest night, the beast is now unleashed.

Pirates, villains and thieves abound, you see them but they make no sound

They'll steal your heart and escape, unmasked by the dawn, by then it's too late.

Silent night, deepest night, fantasies come true

Silent night, lying night, love comes as if on cue.

In night time dreams phantom love remains, to capture your soul when darkness reigns

Illusive love, a thief in the night, caught and branded by daylight.

Silent night, cruelest night, addictive as a drug

Silent night, secret night, how you whisper, how you tug.

BagLady

She shuffles along the city streets, you've seen her many times

Pushing a cart before her, dressed in rags and begging dimes.

In cans behind the stores and shops she searches for food and treasure

Not the model life for most but that's what gives her pleasure.

Her friends are other street people and they're glad to call her friend

Others call her BagLady and rush past her like the wind.

The Dreamer

The Dreamer dreams no more, no more, for now she sleeps by the sycamore

A sleep unbroken by those above, who cry for a memory of life and love.

Cry not for the Dreamer, who is no more, she won't sleep forever by the sycamore

On streets of gold you'll met anew, in a heavenly kingdom she waits for you there.

Seasons

I watch the seasons come and go and the leaves turn red and gold

And with the passing of the years, time leaves it's creases on body and soul.

I look upon each line and mark as a soldier would a medal

Each one was earned, a badge of life that shows our strength and mettle.

Life is full of mystery and no one has a clue

But for the life that remains to me, I want it spent with you.

We've had our trials and problems but we've learned along the way

A true, strong love can endure and grow a bit each day.

I know not what each day will bring, whether it be joy or sorrow

But whatever it brings I hope that we will share our dreams and tomorrows

Taste

Can you taste my sadness, it's in the air, can you sense the reason, do you dare

Time is passing, the end is near, my heart is breaking, can't you hear

Can you taste my tears when our lips meet, can you feel my heart, it's eratic beat

Like the days of summer, slipping away, my dreams are fading, can't you see the gray

Can you picture a garden where love never grew, can't you trust in the love I offer to you

Can you imagine the sorrow of a wind-torn kite, as tears blend with rain on a dark, lonely night

Can you taste my despair when all hope is gone, can you hear the silence when you're all alone

No joy, no laughter, no more birdsong, for without our love, won't the nights seem long.

                    Lovers Of The Dawn

Awakening in the morning, with the mists of sleep still upon me

I brush the hair from your sleepy eyes an whisper I love you, my lover of the dawn.

This time alone together before the world awakes, is ours and ours alone

None other exist but you and I and we're lost in each other, lovers of the dawn.

No worries dare intrude now as we hold each other tight

Our private world sustains us, no daytime rites will bother lovers of the dawn.

Outside the world is sleeping unaware of the coming day

Sunlight touches your silken hair , but we fail to notice for you are loving me, my lover of the dawn.

Innocence Lost  (For two girls dear to my heart)

Two little girls so close yet so far, two golden dreamers reaching for the same star

Two heads together, one dark, one fair, spending their days with nary a care.

Innocent babes in a world of their own, one is a lamb, the other a fawn.

Growing together while growing apart, for different roads beckon two young hearts.

Two childish voices once sang in the sun, but the words were forgotten until there were none

Two little girls no longer so young, forgot their dreams like the songs they once sung.

Both took the wrong road that led to nowhere, nomads in darkness with tears to spare

Both took a wrong turn and found misery, a void of black sky with no stars to see.

                   The Coming Of Night

Daylight ends as night begins, evening shadows shift and grow

Errie shapes within the mist caught in the headlights glow.

The world we see, so new, so changed, familiar sights gone with the light

The altered land is still and strange with the coming of the night.

Distance and time now have no meaning, it's all the same in the dark

Sound is the victor of all the senses, amplified echoes of a dog's single bark.

Envisioned by those who fear the night, a pitch black jungle of secrets and snares

A friend to those who seek to find an enveloping cloak of darkness to wear.

Shadow Queen

I've walked within your shadow til I am a shadow dressed

in rivulets of tears and pain like blood upon my breast.

I've walked within your shadow til my spirit shrinks to fit

nothing remains of what I was just bones in a shadowy pit.

I've walked within your shadow til I am a reflection of you

a cold, impassive mirror that no one can see through.

I've walked within your shadow a phantom seldom seen

doomed to dwell in Shadow Land and rule as Shadow Queen.

Grandpa's Cruise

I took a cruise to see the world, I knew just where to go

To where the river meets the sea, I'd heard it was a mighty show.

I took a cruise to see the world, my first so how was I to know

I thought the terms were kinda strange, they said it was pay as you go.

I took a cruise to see the world or until my money ran low

But when you pay at every port you soon run out of dough.

I took a cruise and all was fine til the cash ran out and they made me row

So if I ever take another cruise, next time I think I'll stow!
