Dr. Michael Kasnic

I have been principal and director of Butcher Children's School, the elementary laboratory school for Emporia State University, and
 instructor in the department of Instructional Design and Technology since 1981.

Butcher Children's School was closed in the spring of 2003 and I moved to a full-time position in the department of Instructional Design and Technology.

I officially retired from Emporia State University in August of 2006.

My wife and I have moved from Emporia to Muskogee, Oklahoma.

I will continue to teach online classes part time out of my home office in Muskogee.

Presented a Poster Session at the National Educational Computer Conference, Dallas, Tx, titled, "The Butcher School-New Zealand Connection," (June, 1992)

Presented a session at the International Reading Association National Convention, San Antonio, TX, titled, "The Butcher School Whole Language Reading Program," (March, 1993)

Presented a session at the National Association of Laboratory Schools national convention titled, "Butcher Extended School Year," (February, 1994)

Presented a session on the Butcher School Year-Round program at the Kansas Association of School Boards state convention, (Dec, 1994)

HERE ARE SOME OF MY GRANTS AND SPECIAL PROJECTS

Spring, 1993: Developed and directed a Kansas Excellence In Education Grant from the Kansas State Department of Education for $53,000 to implement a Year-Round Education program, implement multiage grouping, and implement ABACUS, a computerized curriculum management program at Butcher Children's School.

Spring, 1994: Received a second Kansas Excellence In Education grant, in the amount of $26,000, to continue the implementation of a Year-Round program, multiage grouping, and a computerized curriculum management program for Butcher Children's School.

MY FAVORITE HOBBY IS BARBECUING - before I retired I competed in KCBS barbecue contests. I compete now on a limited basis. My barbecuing now is mostly for family and friends.
