NPN'S

NPN'S (No Purchase Necessary) mail away contests from card companies that are on the back of the pack wrappers.  Might as well give it a try, it only costs a #10 envelope, a $.42 stamp and a 3 X 5 index card (in the US).  Just make sure you get them in before the deadline.  You can also do online NPN's (so far Upper Deck is the only company that is doing online submissions, no more mailing envelopes, as they stopped that).

For the most part, depending on year, type of card, not written in stone, in my eyes:

Mint or better:  Only a reputable grading company should determine this.

Near mint or better:  Very slight wear on 1 corner, slight wax stain, color/focus imperfections or printing spots.  (0-2 choices)

Excellent or better:  May have rough edges, slight wear on corners, minor border discolorations, minor print spots or color/focus imperfections.  (2-3 choices)

Very good or better:  May have minor rounded corners, minor ding, some rough edges, print spots, color/focus imperfections or some off whiteness of borders.  (3-4 choices)

Poor or better:  Corners show extreme wear with rounding, scratched, stained, scuffed and chipping.  Gloss could be gone or several creases may be seen.  (4 or more choices)
