Founded in 1998, Baung Utara Sdn Bhd (100% bumiputra) started as a Riverine Excursion company cruising along the historical Kedah River, in Alor Star, Kedah. While originally using ex military boats, we discovered that we were unable to replace this boats with newer models suitable to operate in a shallow water environment while capable in handling high seas along the costal waters.
This cause our founder, to conceive, designs, and built our range of boats with unique capability and features after years of Research and Development as well as years of operating boat. Initial the boats were built by others, we now have our own Fiber Manufacturing Factory in order for us to maintain strict quality control and to ensure that our unique design is applied properly to each and every boat we produce and sold.
Our Research have develop our own range of Anti Slip Decking which was develop initially for our boats decks, but now have found fresh use at Marine Docks to replace wooden decking , as well as replacing Metal Man Hole covers which command a high resale value.
While we have move on from running simple river rides and excursion, we still maintain our River Cruise (Eco Ride) along the Nipah Forest and Many Fishing Villages of Kedah River, and have expended to providing Dive Charters & Day Snorkeling Excursions to Pulau Payar from the port of Kuala Kedah, the jump of point to Langkawi using our very own demonstration Ranger 1/Sea Devil. Pulau Payar is a short ride away from Kuala Kedah, Making this National Marine Park (the oldest in Malaysia) assessable in a simple day trip, for many Malaysians who have not visited this beautiful island before, for Scuba Diving, Snorkeling, or Simple Relaxation.
Our Training Unit was started in 2002, to train Malaysian government agencies staffs on Seamanship and Boat Handling which have purchase our boats. The Staff are train on various seamanship aspects, boat handling, safety rules and regulation, seamanship rules, navigation, GPS usage and many more. In 2004, Malaysian Civil defense request Baung Utara Sdn Bhd to train their personal on seamanship. After Research and Development, We have developed our own Team Building Training base upon seamanship and boat handling.

Year 2000 Scooper , A Shallow draught, calm water boat, suitable for River Rides or Tour as a excursion boat, river cleaning, rescue operation, riverside construction purpose. Its rectangular design gives it a unique look, with much space for storage or supplies. The Scooper can also be use to build pontoon type of bridges, for emergency use.
While design as a riverine craft, The scooper is able to travel to Pulau Payar approx 13 nautical miles in open seas on a calm day. A number of these craft were sold to River/Lake tour operators as well as to various Malaysian Government Agencies.
Year 2002 Prototype model of Ranger 1 was build for the Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department, Know as the SRB or Search and Rescue Boat, and name Dolphin, Ranger 1 have serve the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department in many ways, Primarily as a Bay Watch Boat at the lovely beaches of Port Dickson, Seramban as well as Telok Bahang, Batu Ferringh, Tanjong Bungah in Penang Island. Dolphin 1 and 2 have serve many years (minimal down time) with distinction in various Search and Rescue Mission and also at the Prestigious Langkawi International Marine and Aerospace Shows (LIMA 2003 and the coming 2005).
At the end of 2004, and early 2005, Dolphin 2 have the sad duty of retrieving Victims Drown by the 2004 Tsunami which hit Penang beaches. Perhilitan a Ranger 1 (32C140 Model) sold to the Malaysian Forestry Department (National Park Division) dock at Telok Bahang the site of the Penang National Marine Park, one of the Hard hit beaches, survive the Tsunami with minimal damage unlike other boats there.
Ranger 1, is design with a unique hull which give it a shallow water operation capability (to approach beaches) also with a High Sea Capability, It has a Capsize Screen Value of only 0.75, much better then the US Coast Guard Requirements of Minimum of 2 and below. Actual Operation of the boat, have proven Ranger 1, attain speed up to 45knots, can operate in sea state 5 conditions, shallow water of 3 ft, Anti Roll capability as tested by the Malaysian Armed Forces recently.
Early Year 2004 - FAB Mark 1, a fiber runabout, design as a Assault Boat, was conceive to replace our ex military aluminum boats which have serve us many years. Design to be light weight, for easy manhandling, but strong to survive hard surface beaching, FAB Mark 1 have a very low radar signature. For safety it has our own unique anti roll over capability, new anti slip decking, & 11 floatation compartments. This craft is suitable for costal and river operation and can survive sea state 3 condition with ease.
Early Year 2005, - Due to the Many complaints receive by fisherman who receive fiber fishing boats to replace boats damage by the 2004 Tsunami just weeks after receiving them, Baung Utara Sdn Bhd develop own our version of a Traditional Sampan (Fishing Boat), built much lighter for fuel saving, and manhandling but strong, with extra features such as Anti Slip Decking, Aluminum Bars as Strengthens to replace wood, built in storage compartment Strict QC check at our Factory ensure that our boat are of high quality and Standard. Baung FRP Fishing Boat was design following the traditional Belimbing Hull or Star Fruit Hull, and with much input from the Fisherman them selfs to ensure that the fisherman receive what they want. Currently Baung FRP Fishing Boat hold the local speed record for the class of engine use where ever they are base.
Year 2005 Continues Research and Development lead us to the Sea Devil, the military and enforcement version of Ranger 1. Base upon the superb design of the Ranger 1, Sea Devil is created for Military and Enforcement use. Equip with Twin OBM Engine of 250hp, Sea Devil has attain a speed of 45 knots in its trails, have creep up to suspected vessels, or laying in ambush with out being detected, the whispering engines can hardly be heard while standing next to it at Idling speed, the engine need to be touch or the water cooling system be observe to know that the engine is running.
Extended Fuel Tanks of 1000 lts & Fuel Efficient engines give it a 8 hours operation or 215 nautical miles* range at full speed, making it ideal at as a Interceptor, Fast Response Craft for Emergency Rescue or Medivac, Infiltration Craft, and many other military and enforcement uses. Imagine the smugglers surprise to see the Sea Devil just next to them silent but ready to response, or when they escape to shallow waters and the Sea Devil just follow unlike traditional Interceptor?
Sea Devil is fast and agile, accelerate from 1 to 40 knots in just 33 seconds, perform max rate turn at 40 knots. Are your Pilots capable to handle her to the maximum? May be Yes, but only after training by us!
