Tournament Rules

  • It is up to each pairing of opponents to contact each other to schedule a day and time to play their match.
  • All scenarios may be used. Pairings will decide which scenario they wish to play.
  • Normal victory conditions, as outlined in the adventure notes, apply.
  • Only Official rules will be used, no house rules. An exception is made in the case you and your opponent decide to play War Council in the early adventures.
  • Each pairing of opponents plays their chosen scenario twice, once as each side. This constitutes a match.
  • The winner of the match is determined one of three different ways:
  1. Wins the scenario as both the Pennant and Standard banners.
  2. If each player wins the scenario once, thus splitting the match, the player who has lost the lesser amount of total banners is declared the winner.
  3. Each player wins the scenario once and both have lost the same amount of banners, then the winner will be the player who lost the least amount of total figures. For example: Player 1 lost seven banners, two cavalry and five foot. for 26 figures total. Player 2 also lost seven banners, one cavalry and six foot. for 27 units total. Since Player 1 lost the least amount of total figures, breaking the tie, he is declared the winner.
  • Creatures only count as one figure.
  • Order all units before moving or attacking.
  • Move units one hex at a time.
  • When drawing cards from your card holder lay them on the board, your opponent will the move the card to the discard pile. This allows your opponent time to read the card and time to play a card of his own.

Reporting Results

  • Before the start of each scenario players will create a log file. This file will be emailed to the tournament administrator (BeerNbabes) after the match. It will then be posted on the web site BattleloreVassal.
  • Scores will also be emailed to the administrator, these will be made available on the website. They will also be available on the brackets page under Game Details.
  • Please list scores in the following format when emailing them to the administrator:
  1. winner’s name, banners won (lost) - losers name, banners won (lost)/ winner’s figures lost, loser’s figures lost.
  • One person at random  will be chosen to settle disputes between opponents if it becomes necessary. This person will be chosen as needed at the time of dispute.

Matching wits against an opponent, for me, is one of the most desirable aspects of Battlelore. It's what gaming is all about and Battlelore does it better than any light wargame out there. Matches are fairly short and always exciting, nothing like laying down the Mounted Charge card and seeing the look on my adversary's face as he realizes his well thought out strategy was all for naught. And what better way to match wits with someone than in a format where something is on the line. Where winners stay and losers...well they get to watch, yes folks I'm talking about tournaments. Now it's not all about winning, heck I'd enjoy the game whether there were tournaments or not, it's the extra stress a tournament puts on me to force me to do my very best. Should I keep my cavalry back in support, or rush them out to engage that heavy infantry unit, knowing if I make a mistake my tournament life is over. Battlore tournaments. I'm drooling just thinking of the possibilities. Unfortunately being a family man I don't have the time, nor could I get the better half's permission, to spend a day at a live tournament event. That's where Vassal comes in. More specifically the Battlelore module on Vassal.

Note: Links are provided on the Link page to both the VassalEngine and the Battlelore module.

The Battlelore module was designed by Bilben04 with contributions from ColtsFan76  members of the Days of Wonder Forums and two gentlemen a lot smarter than myself. The module allows users to play Battlelore over the internet without all the logistic hassle of trying to set up a time and place to meet up with a buddy to play a game. Additionally, as you all know, it's no small task to set up the game board either. Which brings me to another wonderful aspect of Vassal, all the scenarios are all ready set up allowing a user to jump right in and play a game. Playing a tournament on Vassal allows something that just isn't possible anywhere else, that is the ability to play your match at a time that is convenient to both yourself and your opponent.
