About this page

This page basicly talks about the manga itself and how it was created and about its author (Yukito Kishiro) and what a manga is (for those of you who dont know).

What is a manga?

A manga is a Jappanese comic book, you can find tons of them at your local Library or Major book stores (i.e: Barnes and Noble or Borders). Theyre translated into english so no forgeinl aunguge is needed.  To stick with original Jappanese format, the books ussually read from right to left (instead of left to right), but some like th original BAA novels released in english read left to right.. There are all types for adults and kids, I recomend them to you all.

Battle Angel Alita

There are nine volumes of the Original Battle Angel Alita series. The titles are: Battle Angel Alita, Tears of an Angel, Killing Angel, Angel of Victory, Angel of Redemption, Angel of Death, Angel of Chaos, Fallen Angel and Angel's Ascension (check the mangas out at the bottom of the page). The genera is Sci-Fi, with gore (lol). The story and art is all done by Yukito Kishiro. In the originall Jappenese series Battle Angel Alita is called Gunnm (translating to Gun Dream) and Alita's name is Gally. Battle Angel Alita comics have been re-released with new covers. Click this link to compare original and secon addition covers (of rusty angel By the way the original BAA has been renamed Rusty Angel.

All Battle Angel Alita mangas are rated T for older teen's, but I think that theyre sutible for enyone ten and over. Battle Angel Alita is part of Viz Media, under the Action category.

Battla Angel Alita Last Order

In the year 2000, BAA Creator Yukito Kishiro decided to go back and do more BAA books as he had originally envisioned the series. *A little side note: Yukito had to cut the serries short beacuse he was very sick. Any way he created a new BAA series called Last order which expands on Alita's adventures. It starts a week after the events at the end of BAA volume nine (Angel's Ascension), when she was blown up by the doll bomb by Desty Nova. The series features new characters, cleaner drawings (no less gore ), and a few CG (computer generated or graphics) drawings. So far Yukito has come out with seven volumes in English and almost nine in Japanese.

On a side note, After completing the Original Gunnm series, Yukito started abother series called Aqua Knight. When he decided to start a new Gunnm series he put Aqua Knight on hold.

Yukito Kishiro

At 17, he won one of Shueisha's manga contests, but opted to go onto art school instead of ploughing straight into the manga industry. Yukito Kishiro is also the author of Ashen Victor, Aqua Knight, and Battle Angel Alita: Last Order.

Yukito created Battle Angel Alita in the early 1990's and it premired in th the Japanese magazine Ultra Jump. However Yukito became sick and had to end the series faster than he had intended. After his illness Yukito went back to drawing with a new project: Aqua Knight, which was based more on harmony with nature than the Cyber Punk attitude of BAA.

After three volumes Yukito decided to hold off on the series, although he promised all Aqua Knight fans he would eventually return and finish the series. Yukito held Aqua Knight off to go back to the BAA eries and finish it as he originally envisioned it. He named this new series Battle Angel Alita Last Order. The series takes starts a week after Akita is blown up by the Nova's doll bomb towards the end of Angels Ascension. There is no word when he will start doing Aqua Knight again.

Yukito Kishiro also has his own website called Yukitopia. There you can find brief bios on the main characters, submit fanart for the mangas, find out about other works by Yukito Kishiro and chat with other fans in the forum. The site was just updated to version three in December 2008. Each New Years, Yukito puts out a Battle Angel Alita related picture welcoming the new year, I have posted them all bellow.
