Bill also ventured out, for the first time for many a year, onto brandon shale at Coventry, where his only pervious outing was in an F1 in a Bert finnikin car. not tempted by f1, Bills only reason is its geographical location - just too far away from his Newton Abbott base.

Bill's tips fot the top honours

Bill admints " there are some good drivers at the fornt and the World Champion could come from any of them". In no particular order Bill's tips for the title and podium places are, Barry Goldin, Daz Kitson, Gordan Moodie, Mick Sworder, James Thracka - if they can keep out of trouble.

Car Construction

"I always build my own cars - too many to recall a number and I have also built cars for other srivers such as Chalky White, Brain Taylor, Mike James, George Beckham, Alan Warriner and many others - and not forgetting Tim Farrell.

Started racing in 1969

"I started  my first year as white top, went from white to red and for the rest of that season was top blue, bottom reddish. The next season 1970 stared as blue went to superstar and have never dropped first"

Memorable Moments

Bill Batten 167 has been world Champion four times and cities as his best moment winning his first World title. "Up until then" he said " I could win every other race except the World, and when I did win it at Taunton, the fans invaded the track picked me up still in the car and carried me around on a lap of honour - that has to be the most memorable occasion, although there has been lots of others.

Team

Bill's is a small team consisting just of his partner Carol and son Robert. they travel pretty much everywhere with bill and it is to robert that he is especailly thankful and owes a lot of his sucess. "Robert unfortunatly  suffers with epilepsy which prevents him competing himself, to me he is a big, big help, infact I don't think I would race if it wasn't for rob."

one statement i heard today,
was that bill batten rules ok
with mechanics dougy and john,
his cars always goes like a bomb.
his murtie tuned stox
survives most of the knox.
he has a peculiar lingo,
but when you undersatnd its just bingo.
he has a huge fanclub.
that worship him all the way to the pub.
he's short,cute and hairy.
but not at all scarey,
untill he's coming to give you a bump,
to make you feel the biggest chump.
with a permanent smile on his face.
he's always first in the race.
with his gold roof on top,
he's won the lot.
at home he's a chippie.
but on the track nothing but nippy.
and now before i get writers cramp,
i'd just like to say:
