CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS - ST JOHN'S ROAD 27 JUNE '09

The Club Championships for Time Trial and Road Race were held last Saturday.  There were a good roll up of Juniors with many suffering coughs and colds from last weekend's atrocious weather at Surtherland.  The official times will be posted on the page as soon as they come to hand.

First off in the Time Trial were the U15 boys with Harry Carter taking the win, Harry Jones in second and Mitch Wheeler in third.  Jordan was off next representing the U15 Girls recording a very smart time.  Josh Stapley, Joe and Lachie were next in the U13 boys with Lachie finishing with the fastest time, Joe close by in second and Josh showing great improvement in third.  Hollee took the win in the U13 girls with Cyntarrah in second, Jess in third and Tyler in fourth.  It was a very close finish in the U11's between Zac and Harry with Zac taking first and Harry in second.  There was not much of a difference in the times between these two young guns.  In the U9's, young Will is showing some great form and his flash new bike is proving to be very fast.  Well done Will on a great time.  A special mention to Lewis who put in the Time Trial of the day.  Great job Lewis!  I think you've got these older kids starting to worry about how good you are getting!

The Road Race followed with Will in the Under 9's looking very fast.  He looks like he will be a great endurance rider as the longer he goes, the better he gets.  Congratulations on a great ride Will.  In the Under 11's the competition between Harry and Zac is hotting up with Zac just managing to outsprint Harry at the finish.  The racing is getting very exciting between these two.  The U13 Girls had the largest field and it is pleasing to see so many girls in the Club.  Hollee rode a great race with an attack on the hill on the second lap to hold off Cyntarrah's charge with Jess coming in third and Tyler fourth.  Jordan carried the flag for the U15 girls and rode a very good race.  Well done Jordan.  Lachie was too strong in the U13 boys to take the win from Joe.  It is very pleasing to see Joe in great form and looks to be closing in on Lachie.  Josh came home in a very strong third place.  Josh has really improved over the last few months and is really looking good for the upcoming triathlon season.  Keep up the good work Josh.  There was a bit of cat and mouse being played in the U15 boys between the two Harrison's and it almost played into Mitch's hands who was able to make up a huge amount of ground on these two while they were getting carried away with each other.  Harrison Carter took out first place over Harrison Jones with Mitch so very very close in third.  A very smart race Mitch and it nearly paid off for you.

A great morning's racing from all Juniors with some fantastic times being recorded.  Congratulations to all of you.  Just a reminder, there will be no Club racing next Saturday due to the numbers of Juniors heading to Canberra for the Kowalski tour.  Good luck to all the riders competing down there next weekend.

Check out the photo gallery which has been updated with photo's from Country Track Champs last year in Gosford, NSW Track Champs at Dubbo and Goulburn 2 Day Tour.  A big thanks to Mick Summersby who was the photographer for these.  Thanks to Daniel Schoenmacher for sending in a few snaps he took out at  St John's Road on Saturday as well.

IT RAINED MEDALS FOR BATHURST AT SUTHERLAND

The weather last Saturday for the NSW Country Junior Road Championships held in Sutherland was atrocious with heavy rain falling all day.  But this did not stop the 13-strong Bathurst Junior Team from cleaning up in the medals.  Not even the heavy rain could put out the fire as these young guns from Bathurst burned up the bitumen.

In the U11's, the recently crowned Cycling NSW Rider of the Year, Zac Marshall won Gold with Harry Summersby having the sprint of the day to overtake three riders in the last 50 metres to run away with the Silver medal making it a one two finish and setting the standard for the Bathurst Juniors for the rest of the day.

The U13 Boys was contested by Lachie Wheeler and Joe Summersby.  Lachie came home in 5th place with a very gutsy ride considering he was ill and for about 10 km of the race, suffered breathing difficulties which really made this a remarkable result.  Joe also had a terrific result storming across the line in 6th place - a huge improvement by Joe and will definitely be one to watch over the next couple of months.

Hollee was again too strong in the U13 Girls taking the Gold medal with Cyntarrah, competing in her first tour for the season, finishing with a well-earnt Bronze.  Jess came home in 6th place a great result for Jess and Tyler finishing in 7th - a fantastic ride placing her first amongst the younger riders of the age group.

In the U15A Boys, Harrison Carter finished with a very strong sprint to hold out a fast finishing bunch to take out Silver with Harrison Jones screaming home in 5th place.  Great job guys.

The U15 Girls saw Jordan finish in 9th position.  This was a massive result as it was Jordan's first race having only started cycling a few months ago.  She is definitely going to be one to watch in the future, especially if her look of dogged determination to stay on the leading bunch is anything to go by.  Well done Jordan.  Loved the smile on your face coming to the finish line!

Tamsyn competed in the U17 Girls.  We all know Tamsyn as being a top-class triathlete but she is really stamping her authority in the cycling ranks taking the Bronze medal, leaving much more experienced girls in her wake.  Fantastic ride Tamsyn.

Overall, it was an amazing result from the Bathurst Juniors which will have other Clubs around the State nervous with the upcoming State Championships in August.  The overall tally was 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze a total of 7 medals over the 6 age catgories contested by the Bathurst Juniors.  Although it wasn't all about the medals won, it was more importantly about the personal bests that were achieved right across the board from all riders.  David Lane from Action Snaps photography asked during the medal presentations what are we feeding these Bathurst Kids!  This is truly a testament to the hard work they are putting in at training during the week out in the cold weather, on the weekends in club racing and also the amount of time put in by their coaches.  The Juniors would like to take this opportunity of thanking the coaches and also their parents for making this possible for them.

Welcome To Road Racing.  Jordan's first race for Bathurst.  An unforgettable one in many ways for her.  Note how treacherous the weather was.  This makes you realise how great the results for the Bathurst Juniors were.

David Lane from Action Snaps Photography took some great photos of all the Juniors over the two days in Sutherland.  These can be viewed at http://www.actionsnaps.com.au/ and are available to buy.

SOUTHERN CROSS JUNIOR ROAD CARNIVAL

The sun was a welcome sight on the Sunday at Sutherland after the previous day for the Country Championships.  Although the sun was out, many of the Juniors still had wet gear from the previous day unable to be dried out in time.  The day's racing started with a road race across the age groups followed by a criterium.

Zac and Harry once again did the Club proud in the U11's with Zac taking out 2nd in the road race with Harry right on his wheel in 3rd.  The criterium saw Zac take the win with Harry finishing in 6th.  An outstanding weekend for both boys.  Congrulations.

In the U13 Boys, Lachie and Joe both had great results with Lachie finishing 2nd in the RR and 3rd in the crit.  A remarkable result as Lachie was still suffering the effects of the breathing difficulties from the previous day.  Imagine what he will be able to do when he is fully fit.  Well done Lachie.  Joe finished off his weekend with a 6th in the RR and 7th in the crit.  A great result for Joe as he has put in so much effort at training.  It is pleasing to see that it is all starting to pay off for him.

The U13 Girls saw the four girls put in some really great performances.  Hollee came in 2nd in the RR and 4th in the crit, taking the opportunity to do some experimenting during the racing.  Cyntarrah finished 4th in the RR and 3rd in the crit and considering that she has not had the racing the other girls have over the last few months, this was a great result for her.  Well done Cyntarrah.  Jess is becoming increasingly consistent and more confident with every race coming home 6th in the RR and 5th in the crit.  Excellent job Jess.  Tyler finished her weekend off on a very strong note finish 7th in the RR and the crit.  She has improved immensely over the last few weeks and the RR was probably so far her best ever race, staying in the lead bunch for all bar three laps and only 30 seconds behind the winner at the end of the race.  This has been a massive and very pleasing improvement.  Keep going strong.

Mitch competed in the U15B Boys who are a very strong group of riders.  He rode consistently well and improved remarkably on his results from Goulburn, finishing 11th in the RR and 12 in the crit.  Keep going Mitch.  You're catching them.

In the U15A Boys, the two Harrison's, once again, did a fantastic job with Harry C coming  2nd in the RR and 3rd in the crit and Harry J 7th in the RR and 3rd in the crit.  The Harry's are going to be two of the ones to watch in this age group over the next two months leading up to the State Champs.  They are awesome to watch.

Tamsyn came home in 6th place in the U17 Women's RR which was a great result for her in a very strong field of riders.  Her crit result was unavailable but general concensus is she came finished around midfield.  Another good result as being a triathlete, crits are not really her forte.  Congratulations Tamsyn.

It was a hugely successful weekend for all 13 of the Juniors that competed in Sutherland.  We look forward to seeing how well they go over the next few months on the road to the State Champs at Port Macquarie.  Congratulations to all of you.

GOULBURN 2 DAY JUNIOR TOUR

It was a cold, wet, Wintery day that greeted the 10 juniors from Bathurst at Goulburn last Saturday.  Just a month after Wagga, the weather had changed for the worse but the quality of riding from our Juniors had improved remarkably with all riders having a very successful weekend.  Saturday saw the first time trial and road race on what was a fairly flat course with a rather brisk and cold tail wind out and a head wind back to the finish which made for some very close times and finishes in all ages.  There were slight teething problems with the new transponders and all riders had a nervous wait for their TT results overnight.  Harry Summersby and Zac went out first in the U11 TT with Zac taking out the TT with a very quick time and Harry Summersby coming home in 8th only 93 seconds behind Zac's time which shows how close the times were in the U11's.  Next up was Lachie and Joe in the JB13's TT.    Lachie came home in third place with Joe finishing just outside the top 6.  A top effort by both boys with Joe improving greatly since Wagga.  Hollee, Jess and Tyler in the JG13's TT put in fantastic results with Hollee taking out the TT, Jess in 4th and Tyler in 8th.  Well done girls.  In the JB15A TT, Harrison Jones had a fantastic ride to come home in 2nd position behind Nathan Bradshaw (St George CC) with Harrison Carter finishing in 6th.  Once again, the two Harrison's were on fire.  Mitch battled on in the JB15B to finish in 11th position.  This was a great effort considering this was a very strong field of 19 riders.

The first road race followed.  As the weather started to deteriorate, Zac and Harry Summersby set off in the U11's with Zac taking out the race in a very impressive fashion and Harry improving with every race coming home close by in 5th.  The U13 Boys saw Lachie taking the money in a sprint for the line with Peiden Telfer (Central Coast CC) and Joe finishing in a very commendable 10th place.  In the U13 Girls, Hollee was again too good to take 1st place, Jess improving with every race in 4th position and Tyler not far behind in 8th.  Harry Carter and Harry Jones were once again a force to be reckoned with in the U15A Boys with Harry J finishing strongly in 2nd place and Harry C a length behind in 6th position.  Mitch fought hard in the U15B Boys with a big sprint at the end to hold off a few riders to come home in 12th.

The sun shone on Sunday with the rain gone but the wind was still strong and icy.  The course was more hillier than the previous day's flat stage.  Zac and Harry were first off in the TT with Harry finishing in 4th and Zac in 5th.  This was a good result for both riders, especially Harry, whose confidence is growing with every race.  Hollee took out the TT in the JG13's, Jess in 4th with another consistently good effort and Tyler in 8th keeping her above the first years in the age group.  In the U13B's TT, Lachie rode strongly to take out 3rd and Joe pedalling home for 11th.  Harry Carter finished in 4th in the U15A Boys TT with Harry Jones just behind on time in 7th.  In the U15B Boys, Mitch came home in 15th but was less than a second behind 10th.  The times in this division were very very close.

In the U11 RR, there was a "stacks on the mill" crash at the start with Zac getting caught behind the fallen riders and displaying very good skills to stay upright himself.  This enabled a small group to put distance on him at the start but battled on to come in 5th.  Harry Summersby, possibly having one of his best rides in his career came home in 4th.  In the U13G's, Hollee showing why she is the top ranked rider of this age group came home with another win.  Jess's great weekend continued with a 5th placing - a great improvement.  Tyler finished in 7th showing that she is among the top first years in the U13's.  Lachie again had another close finish in the U13B's with Peiden Telfer (Central Coast CC) to finish in 2nd.  The racing between these two is really exciting to watch.  Joe had a fantastic result finishing in 7th.  He is also a first year and one to watch in the future.  The U15A Boys saw another great win by Harry Carter with Harry Jones in 10th.  Another consistently great effort by these two.  Mitch rode a great race to come home in 16th in the U15B Boys.  Well done Mitch.

Overall, it was a very successful weekend for the Bathurst Juniors and all looks well for the NSW Country Championships at Sutherland in a month's time.  Well done to all.

GWEN FRENCH MEMORIAL WAGGA TWO DAY TOUR

A group of 10 juniors travelled to Wagga last weekend to compete in the Gwen French Memorial 2 Day Junior Tour.   This was the first Tour of the Junior Road Season Calendar with riders from all over NSW, ACT and Victoria in attendance.  Even a couple of young Kiwis crossed the Tasman for the event.  The riders (and parents) were treated to a weekend of glorious Autumn weather which provided some great racing and fantastic results from the Bathurst Juniors.

Saturday's program commenced with the Time Trial followed by the first Road Race.  The U 11's were the first to hit the road for the Club.  Harry Summersby and Zac Marshall both burned up the bitumen to set the standard of the weekend with Zac impressing with a very quick time of 13:01.00 seconds to finish in equal 1st position along with Thomas Cornish from Southern Cross CC with these two riders recording exactly the same time and not able to be split.  Harry finished in a very impressive 6th place.  The U13 Girls were next to depart with Tyler being the first Bathurst rider to leave, recording a personal best time to put her in 8th.  Jess Marshall was next and pedalled her way to a very quick time which propelled her into 4th place.  This was made all the more impressive by the fact that Jess encountered a "slight mechanical" during the TT with one of her aero bars coming loose.  This matter has now been dealt with and the "mechanic" is understood to have been stood down from his duties and will now be taking up bricklaying!  Hollee was the last to leave in the TT.  She absolutely flew and recorded a truly remarkable time of 11:38.95 to take 1st place.  This time was so fast that it would have placed her second in the U13 Boys as well as second in the U15 Girls.  Congratulations Hollee that was completely awesome.  The U13 Boys TT also gave the parents cheering practice with Lachy riding a very quick time of 11:59.00 to take out 3rd place, just a fraction behind 2nd.  Joe Summersby put in a solid performance to come home in 10th.  Well done Lachy and Joe on a great job.  Mitch was the sole representative in the U15B Men's and put in a very strong time to finish in 10th place.  He lost some time when his back wheel was clipped by another rider who crashed out of the TT.  Well done Mitch for recording such a strong time as well as managing to stay upright.  The U15A Men's TT was contested by Harrison Carter and Harrison Jones.  These pair are becoming a force to reckon with over the past month and again showed their great form with Harry C finishing in 3rd place in a time of 16:40.00 with Harry J 0.07 seconds behind in 4th.  The Harry bus is becoming the most watched and eagerly anticipated racing and they never fail to deliver.

The day concluded with the first Road Race.  In the U11's, Zac and Harry Summersby were met with some strong racing but both boys rose to the challenge gamely with Zac putting in to finish 3rd and Harry 6th.  Tyler, Jess and Hollee lined up for the U13 Girls with Hollee setting the pace right at the start.  She made it difficult for anyone to stay with her and came home in a very convincing 1st place.  Jess found herself at the front of a Wagga train and slogged it out with them to come home in 6th with Tyler crossing in 8th in a very good result for her 1st year in U13's.  Lachy showed too much class and speed in the U13 Boys to take out the race with Joe finishing 10th in a very gutsy effort.  Mitch was met with some very strong competition in his U15B Men's RR but battled it to finish in 6th place after winning the sprint to the line against three other riders.  It was great to see the way Mitch dug in to take out that sprint.  In the U15A Men's the spectators were, once again, treated to a sprint finish with no less than nine riders jostling for the number one position.  Travis Smedley from Illawarra CC just managed to shave out Harrison Jones who finished half a wheel behind in 2nd position.  Harrison Carter, having set Jonesy up in a good position, managed to cross the line in 5th.  This was a fantastic finish as all the riders in the race crossed the line in under 5 seconds.  What great entertainment.

Sunday's program consisted of two Road Races for all age divisions.  Zac and Harry again took on the U11's with Zac taking a great win in the first race and 3rd place in the second race.  Harry finished 6th in the first but saved his best for last and came home in a very impressive 5th in the second.  Congratulations to Zac and Harry.  That was a massive effort from both of you.  Hollee showed her class in the U13 Girls to win both races, making it a clean sweep over the weekend.  Hollee's efforts in her training have been rewarded and she really deserved the results she obtained over the weekend.  Jess had a great weekend finishing 6th in both races.  Well done Jess, your hard work at training is starting to pay off.  Tyler also finished strongly in both races coming in 9th and 10th.  That's a great job Tyler.  It's not easy being a first year but every race you keep getting stronger.  In the U13 Boys, Lachy rode hard to record a 6th and 2nd.  Lachy is looking very strong and looks to continue to figure prominantly throughout the season.  Joe also found some good form on Sunday saving his best race for last finishing well up in the bunch.  Joe is also a 1st year but every race he gains more confidence.  Great work Joe, keep it up.  Mitch kept his consistently high standards in the U15B Men's finishing 6th in both races.  It was a great effort by Mitch against some very strong competition.  The Harry Bus just kept rolling in the U15A Men's with very impressive results from both riders with Harry Jones finishing 3rd in both races and Harry Carter finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

The overall GC standings for the weekend were as follows:

U11        Zac Marshall           2nd                   Harry Summersby   6th

U13G      Hollee Simons        1st                    Jess Marshall          6th                  Tyler Buckley        7th

U13B      Lachy Wheeler        2nd                   Joe Summersby      8th

U15B      Mitch Wheeler         8th

U15A      Harrison Jones        2nd                   Harrison Carter        4th

A big congratulations to all the Bathurst Juniors who took part in the Tour.  Not only were your efforts on the road outstanding but also your sportsmanship, behaviour and team spirit over the weekend.  Well done and a big thank you from all the parents.  A fun weekend was had by all.

A special mention must go to Bathurst's answer to MacGyver (although there were some references made to Russell Coight), Dave Jones for fashioning the fence from the paddock to allow easier access for us in and out of the road.  Thanks Dave.  This was appreciated by all especially after your traumatic attack by what appeared to be a very vicious bunch of hungry mozzies in the early hours of Saturday morning!

Just a reminder, racing is at Sulman Park, Mount Panorama this weekend.  9.45 am sign on, racing at 10.00 am.

Tune in to the Junior Sports Program on 2BS, Saturday mornings from 7.40 am to 8.30 am as I am endeavouring to contact Graeme Hangar every week with the results and happenings of the Junior Cycle Club.  I am hoping to also advise the program of Club racing cancellations for the morning if the weather is too bad.

Leonie Summersby is now available to hire for hurdling and wobble board singing lessons.  Please contact Leonie if you are interested in learning one of these special talents.

Mick Marshall's backyard mechanic shop is now closed for business.  Opening soon will be Mick's Bricklaying.

A Happy Mother's Day on Sunday to all the Mum's.  Here's hoping you get brekkie in bed (that's after the bunch ride, of course!!).

JUNIOR SYDNEY CRITERIUM GRAND PRIX - JONES AND CARTER SHOW THEIR CLASS.

With an early start of 5.30 am, Harrison Carter and Harrison Jones travelled down to Sydney last Sunday morning to compete in the Sydney Crit Grand Prix.  During the trip some plans were made.  The guys knew that the newly crowned Australian Sprint Champion Michael Docker along with the Bronze medallist from the recent Australian Championships Travis Smedley and recently crowned NSW Hill Climb Champion Nathan Bradshaw would all be there and gunning for the win.

The plan they came up with was Harry C was to attack, attack, attack while Harry J was to try and hide in the bunch and make the other sprinters do the chasing; hoping they would sap the sprinters' legs or that Harry C could get away.........turns out the boys had some allies in Brad Heffernan (Illawarra) and Nathan Bradshaw (St George)!  From the start, the pace was on with Carter, Heffernan and Bradshaw attacking several times whilst Jones was playing his role superbly.  After many attacks by Carter, it was becoming clear that the sprinters were going to have their day on the flat and very fast course and the only hope was that Jones had fresh legs for the finish.

With two laps to go the pace was still on.  Carter and Co made one more last ditch effort to try and steal the race but all to no avail.  On the bell lap, the pace eased off just a little until the last sharp bend and the slightly up-hill finish became chaos.  First Heffernan went followed by Bradshaw.  With 200 metres to go the current sprint champion and national record holder, Michael Docker, popped out to go with the ever-present Harrison Jones right on his wheel - only to be beaten on the line by a length with Travis Smedley third in the narrowest of margins over Carter, fourth,  in one of the best bunch sprints seen for a while.

A truly great and inspiring effort by the Bathurst boys as well as a valuable learning curve on some of the team tactics that can play a huge role in a race like this.  Glen Carter and the boys had plenty of people wanting to know what was in the Bathurst water as they were going so strong!!  A big congratulations Harry J and Harry C on such a superb effort.

The boys are now pumped for this weekend's racing in Wagga.  By all accounts, they are both reaching "star status" and I have it on good authority there were a few admirers hanging around and this looks certain to be the same again this weekend!  Mind on the job boys!  There's a race or two to be won!

A special mention to former Junior Angus Tobin who finished 5th in the U19 Men's.  Well done Gus.

Lastly but not least, thanks to Glen Carter for supplying the info.

ST JOHN'S ROAD - 25 APRIL 2009

It was a very cold and windy welcome to the first Junior Club race last Saturday.  The Juniors had the luxury of a tail wind heading out but coming back in, they were faced with the full brunt of the wind.  With this in mind, the times recorded in both the handicap and TT events were outstanding.  Lachy secured the fastest time of the day with a very fast time of 5:39 in the TT.  Another outstanding effort was that of Hollee who is really showing some great form leading up to Wagga this coming weekend.

It was great to see young Will back racing and had the ride of the day completing his time trial on a mountain bike!   Well done Will.  That was a HUGE effort!  In the U11's Zac and Harry Summersby again pleased the crowd with some more close racing.  These two young guns are true entertainers.  Joe, Lachy and Macka battled it out in  boys with Lachy just edging out Joe.  Lachy has carried over his outstanding form on the track to the road and looks hard to beat at the moment but Joe is catching him.  Looks like all the hard work at training is starting to pay off Joe, keep it up.   A special mention to Macka who really showed a lot of guts and determination in the TT.  Good on ya Macka!  It was great to see you back racing and you are certainly going to be a big threat in the weeks to come.  The Bathurst Club is fortunate to have a strong contingent of four girls in the U13's ranks.  The racing between these girls is fast and competitive but when they are not racing, they are the best of friends.  Both Hollee and Cyntarrah both rode extremely well and Jess and Tyler are starting to ride into good form and will give the other girls a lot to think about over the coming weeks.

A big thanks to both Mitch and Harry Jones who helped out during the races.

Lastly, a big congratulations to Jordan who competed in her first Club race on Saturday in the Anzac Cup.  Well done!  It was a big race and all in the Junior Club are proud of your efforts.

Lastly, just a reminder that there will be NO JUNIOR CLUB RACING THIS COMING SATURDAY 2 MAY due to the large contingent of members travelling to Wagga.  Good luck to ALL competing in Wagga.  Ride strong and have fun!  The next Club Race will be on Saturday 9 May at Mount Panorama.

2009 JUNIOR ROAD SEASON & B2B

The road season is now underway.  The road calendar draft has been posted on the site and it looks like a very busy time for the juniors.   Please keep checking the calendar every week as some of the proposed dates and venues may change during the season.  We will endeavour to keep this up to date every week.

We welcome some new members to the junior ranks with Josh and Kyle having started during track season, Jessica and Zac Marshall coming to us from Wagga at the start of the year and Jordan having just started over the last few weeks.  Good luck to our new members, keep up the good work and we hope you enjoy your racing with us.

The first major race for the season was last weekend with the Bathurst Criteriums, Hill Climb and the B2B with some overall excellent results by all the juniors.  Saturday saw a glorious day for racing as well as spectating.  Zac and Harry Summersby battled it out in the U11 crit  with Zac taking a hard fought  win over Harry.  We are really looking forward to watching the racing between these two throughout the season.  The U13's was just as exciting with Bathurst having a very strong contingent of four girls in this age group with Joe Summersby and Lachie carrying the torch for the boys.  Tyler and Jess went off in the first bunch followed 30 seconds later by Hollee, Cyntarrah and Joe.  Lachy started a further 30 seconds behind this bunch.  It was a nailbiting race with the Bathurst team working well when Hollee's chain came off.  She managed to get the chain back on and rejoined the race.  Cyntarrah, Joe, Jess and Tyler all put in 110 per cent while Lachy was making his way through the field to catch Hollee but Hollee rode the race of her life  to take the win.  Well done Hollee.  It just goes to show that even when the odds are against you, never give up.  The race of the day had to have been the U15 boys.  What a finish!  You could have thrown a blanket over the first five.  Mitch rode extremely well in the lead bunch keeping a break on the following bunches for most of the race.  Harrison Jones rode a very smart race and stayed well within his bunch.  Harry Carter had it all in front him starting with the last bunch.  He worked hard to get up toward  the front markers.  Harrison Jones took out third place with Harry Carter a wheel behind in fourth.  Well done to the three boys.  Thank you for providing us spectators with such an exciting race.  All three competed in the Hill Climb earlier in the day putting in superb performances on such a hard climb with Harry Carter gaining second place in U15 Boys.  Great work Harry!

Sunday saw a strong and cool south-easterly wind which cooled temperatures considerably on Saturday's.  It also made for a head wind for most of the way in the B2B short and long courses.  The day kicked off with the Family Fun Ride of 21 km around Bathurst.  The Club was well represented by Harry Summersby, Zac, Joe Summersby, Jess, Cyntarrah, Tyler and Jordan, along with parents Mick and Sonia Marshall, Leonie Summersby and Steve Buckley.  Although this was supposed to be a "Fun Ride", the competitve nature of the juniors came out and they put in a fantastic effort over a quite challenging course completing it in around 40 minutes, catching the organisers by surprise as they assumed it would take at least an hour!  The parents took a "little" bit longer.  There were a few mechanicals along the way with everything from handlebars dropping to chains coming off.  There was even a fall (no names will be mentioned) but all the kids were fine!

The 70 km short course was contested by Harrison Jones, Josh Stapley and Mitch and Lachy Wheeler while Hollee Simons carried the torch for the girls.  All riders had outstanding performances in very trying conditions and the times recorded by these riders were fantastic.  Congratulations to you all and be very proud of your effort.  There were a lot of riders who finished behind you.  There was also some commendable efforts among the parents with Dennis Martin, Mark Simons, Graham Wheeler, Angela Jones and Mick Summersby doing their children proud.  David Jones competed in the long course and posted a very impressive time.  Well done to the parents.

Congratulations also to senior club member Dean Windsor who took out the crit on Saturday along with the long course race on Sunday.  The juniors were truly inspired by his efforts and learnt a great deal from watching him and his Drapac Porsche team mates.  Teddy Windsor also gave the juniors plenty to cheer about.

This Saturday sees the start of the Junior Road Race Calendar and no doubt the Juniors will be putting into action what they learnt over last weekend which should lead to some very exciting racing.  If last weekend's racing is anything to go by, this is going to be a really exciting year in the Junior ranks so sit back, buckle up and enjoy the ride!
