 iATKOS v2.0i

My Objective for installing iATKOS v2.0i was to dual boot it with Windows Vista installed first.

I downloaded it from the Demonoid torrent site, at a reasonable size of 2.6GB, and burned it onto a DVD-R. I had no errors burning it onto the DVD, so I decided to boot from it. It came up to the Darwin boot bit where it asks you to boot from the DVD, so I just pressed enter, and it booted up fine with no errors, or stoppages. This is where I got amazed; they added a nice new background for the install menu. So I got to the bit where it asks me to click the à button, so I clicked it, and it said that it was preparing the Mac installation. It finally came up with the welcome screen, so i went to disk utility to format my partition, and everything went well. Normally after I had formatted the partition I would go to UtilitiesàDarwin Boot to install the Mac OS X Boot loader, but Darwin Boot was not in the Utilities Drop-down menu. So I did not know what to do, so I just clicked continue, and agreed the license agreement. I then chose where to install Mac, and then clicked next. I then click on customize where I found some new stuff in there.

I then had a look at all of the choices, and chose the following:

·iATKOS v2.0i Main System

·Darwin Bootloader

·DriversàVGAàIntelàGMA 950

·DriversàNetworkàAtheros 5005eg

I then clicked Continue, and clicked Install. It then asked me to verify the Installation DVD, so I skipped that to save some time. After it had installed, it said that it was Successful, so I clicked Restart. I then took out the Installation DVD, and went to boot into Mac. It came up to the Darwin Boot asking me to choose what to boot from, so I highlighted the Mac partition, and clicked Enter. I encountered a problem when it says ‘There were problems trying to start your computer', and that it has to pause for 5 Seconds, so I left it for 5 seconds, and it booted into Mac fine.

It then showed me the Welcome video, but there was no sound (due to my sound drivers not installed yet). It then came into the welcome screen, where I had to setup my personal settings. So I entered my details, and I then logged in. I did not encounter any problems with that part.

The only problem that I have with Mac, is that my Wireless card & my Ethernet Card does not get recognized, and they never has been recognized by any of the Hackintosh’s. My sound didn’t work either, but as soon as I logged in I installed the correct drivers, and my sound worked.

I then went to restart my computer and then go to boot into vista. As it went to restart, it displayed something about needing to cache shutdown or something, and then just restarted normally. So I went to boot into vista and it display an error that it couldn’t boot up properly, so I just booted into the Windows Vista Installation DVD and repaired it by..

1.       Chose my language settings

2.       Click on ‘Repair your computer’

3.       No operating system was displayed there, so I just click ‘Next’

4.       I then click on ‘Start up repair’, and it said that it will take about an hour to fix the problems.

5.       I then left it for a while, and it came up with a message say that it could no repair it, and asked me to send the information to Microsoft, so I click ‘Don’t send’, and then clicked ‘Finsh’.

6.       It then took me back to choosing a repair option, so I click on ‘Command Prompt’.

7.       I type in the following(In order):

Diskpart

List disk

Select disk 0

List partition

Select partition 1

Active

Select partition 2

Active

Select partition 1

Active

Exit

Bootrec /rebuildbcd

Y

Exit

8.       I then clicked on ‘Restart’, and it restarted my computer.

It then booted straight into Windows Vista without coming up with the Darwin boot. I booted up into Windows vista fine, but my Wireless was not working (It must have been the ‘Atheros 5005eg’ driver that I chose in the Mac installation). So then I installed me Wireless drivers, and then restarted my computer. I then booted into Windows Vista and my wireless was fine. But I had to reconfigure, it to my personal settings like:

  • Entering my wep key
  • Choosing my preferred network

Overall after trying out the new Version of iATKOS, I do not think it is any different than the first version (iATKOS v1.0i), accept from adding some new drivers and patches. I think that v2.0i is worst version out of the two, in my opinion. I think that because:

  • They have taken out Darwin Boot from the Utilities drop-down menu.
  • You don’t get to choose where you would like to install Darwin Boot, instead it does it automatically for you.
  • I encountered a problem when I went to go and boot into Mac, which says ‘There were problems trying to start your computer', and that it has to pause for 5 Seconds. And it does this every time I go to boot into Mac.
  • So I went to boot into vista and it display an error that it couldn’t boot up properly.
  • When I repaired Windows Vista I lost the Darwin Bootloader.
  • My wireless was not working, due to installing a Wireless driver from Mac.
  • I had to reconfigure my wireless settings, and reinstall my wireless driver.

If you are dying to try this out, have a go by all means.

But if you are looking to dual boot, I do not recommend it.

In my opinion, I would just stick with iATKOS v1.0i. I have never had any problems with it, and I never have!
